Sleepless nights weren’t an unusual occurrence. The crown princess was learning that time differences and travel were quite rough. And as future queen would be part of her life. Even so, she was wide awake in the middle of the night. Her home’s state of affairs were also on her mind. 

She had decided a late night roam through the hallways to the cafeteria might settle her restlessness. She hadn’t considered someone else might be out and about too, though. She smiled politely upon recognizing her classmate.

“Hello, Saihara-kun. Couldn’t sleep?”

She spent most of the day roaming the city, trying to get a baring upon her surroundings. The gap in her memories bothered her. It was almost like waking up in that school, except for the apparent freedom she had now. Maki kept to herself, but observed those around her. None of them seemed to be worried. Was this place safe? She couldn’t solve this in one day. And she knew she’d never get to sleep, at this rate.

(Keep moving, Harumaki! Sitting around feeling sorry for yourself won’t get you anywhere!)

He would say something annoying like that, wouldn’t he? Then he’d drag her by the hand, if she protested. She promised she wouldn’t let him down. To become someone that could like herself...The person he believed in. That was why she couldn’t just sit still. She flipped through things to do, then settled upon the observatory.

She navigated there easily. The night air was crisp, cool. Clouds were sparse, yet they littered the sky. It somehow felt more... real than the night sky she trained under a while ago. It seemed lonelier too. She moved to a less crowded area to stargaze. Seemed someone else had the same idea. Maki was going to turn away, but... she recognized him. Even from behind. She was frozen for a few seconds.

“...S-Saihara?”

One can only stay holed up in their room for so long and Kaede Akamatsu is no exception to this. There’s a whole city to explore, but her thoughts are elsewhere. Given the circumstances, it should be understandable. Then again, she’d look like the average girl to most who saw her. It was for the best. She has no desire to discuss with anyone the world whence she came.

Nevertheless she moves idly through the crowds, seeking a quiet place to settle her thoughts. Fresh air should do her some good. It’s how she finds herself seated on a bench near the fountain in Pearl Park.

Akamatsu hasn’t taken notice of anyone around her. Though no piano is before her, music is part of who she is despite everything. Absently, she hums Clair de Lune under her breath.

Guilt, huh.

It wasn’t as if he enjoyed it. He wasn’t Shirogane, whose existence seemed built upon Danganronpa. He was a boy first. (Was a boy. Who knew what he’d become.) Theoretically, no blood was upon his hands. His prints weren’t found on... most crime scenes. Amami had nothing to do with any act of murder. Not in the act itself, at least.

But..

He had guided, urged, manipulated. He wasn’t bound by the same rules as the mastermind. He could play as dirty as he needed. And he had a choice: His classmates or his sisters. Which was right, which was wrong? Amami couldn’t save one group of classmates. He had little reason to believe he could save another. But if there was even the slightest chance to save his sisters... after everything...

He couldn’t turn back time. What he’d done, the path he walked, the lives he sacrificed. That weight was upon his shoulders. It was his to carry and his alone.

“Everyday.”

But he’d make the same choice, if he had a chance to start over again.
