Is there a gay number in Chinese/mando? Talking with friends about how Brazil has 24 and mexico has 41 made me realize that I don't know if we have a gay number, which seems unlikely to me, given that theres so much other stuff based around number homophones/numerology
I can only speak for Mandarin Chinese but:
1(yÄ«) and 0 (lĆng) = slang for top/bottom (0.5 would be vers but that's getting into the weeds a bit).
So 0 would be the gay(er) number, I guess, but calling someone a 0 would basically just be calling them a bottom; it's more like something people would giggle at if they knew that already (which, thanks to the internet, more people do). It's not really a number you'd assign to gay people broadly, though.
(Ramble time)
The word for gay in chinese is åę§ę tóng xƬng liĆ n (shorthand TXL online) so actually there is some slang like 24 in Brazil that are based on being near homophones. One popular (online) slang for gay is éč®Æå½ tóng xùn lù which means "address book/directory" and by extension, ēµčÆę¬å diĆ nhuĆ bÄnzi which as you can see sounds nothing like the word for gay but means "phone contact book", so it's a layer deepr than é讯å½.
