thank you my dear @sweetbeagaming + @gerbits for tagging me to share my simblr resolutions! ✨ I'm a couple days late, what else is new 🙈

2024 was a biiiiit shit and I ended up taking a lot more time away from simblr than intended. part of that is unavoidable, sometimes I just don't have the bandwidth... but another factor is that my Rebuild A City series — while still primarily gameplay-driven — is super structured and time / goal driven so I can't just dip in and out of that save as casually as I'd like sometimes.

so for 2025 my goal is to be more active if / when I'm on hiatus from RBACC — whether that's just shit posting, sharing builds or WIPs, more reblogs, etc. I think I'll do a lot better staying on top of comments / asks and getting back into the swing of things when I'm ready if I just make that effort to not completely disconnect!

ps) I just went to check my resolutions from last year and I diiiiiid it! can I nail 2 years in a row? *waggles eyebrows at future self*

What's your resolution for your Simblr ?

I have big hopes, dreams and plans for my simblr this year. Of course more art, always more art, but also: -blender scenes -more tuts on my secondary render school blog -downloads (scenes, lots, sims etc) -I want to finish at least one challenge (probably cas), create at least one (probably cas lmao) and actually participate in Simblreen after being unable to for various reasons for the last several years. But my biggest ambition for my simblr this year is an upcoming story! 👀 I had been working on one when my dad passed that I've been unable to get back to (for now) and was derailed from completing Vignettes last year when my collaborator suddenly dropped out/no longer wanted me to work on it. That's been weighing on me lately. I hadn't planned to 'announce' anything fully but like, I'm bummed it's no longer happening mostly because it makes me seem noncommittal when I'm anything but, I've just been asked not to do it. SO, idk, I want to create and I will create so the show will simply go on without that character/in a different direction/with a different storyline. It's still in the earliest stages but I'm making progress on it day by day and I hope to start posting it before/at least by the fall. It's very ambitious but I'm very ambitious so I hope I can accomplish that this year.

What do you want from the Sims franchise?

It's always so funny for me to answer these questions as I barely play the game but like, I want more diverse hobbies, like BANDS? Music pls give me musical instruments our sims can play that's not the piano/guitar/violin PLEASE, but I'd also kill for some FULL build sets in a different/new aesthetic. & another city that's actually well developed please. Let me thrive EA I'm begging you.

Any other New Years resolutions ?

After a catastrophic personal loss towards the end of 2023, I'm just trying to live my best, most authentic life this year and beyond. I want to embody everything my dad was and live for him. He was fearless in his hobbies and endeavors, and I strive to be the same way now. There's no time to be afraid of what people might think. This year I want more laughter, more real friends, closer connections, my truest sense of self and style, more tattoos, clothing that I actually like/want, more experiences, more time with family. More concretely, I want to create more. Do more with my hands. I'm in the process of reopening my Etsy storefront with a major rebrand, this time focusing on gothic accessories (jewelry so far), decor and oddities. I'd like to eventually participate in trade shows that come through my area.

There's a lot to do this year, but I think I'm ready for it.

What's your resolution for your simblr?

To post at least a couple of story posts this year!! I haven't made any progress towards making new ones since I posted the last ones, but I'm determined to get story posts out this year, even if it's only one or two. (I'd love to do at least one a month, but I know that's not going to happen.) Aside from my story, I want to continue working on my editing and keep getting better at that and having more fun with it. I love editing, and I love seeing what I can do.

What do you want from The Sims franchise?

Frankly, I want them to be done with ts4. Leave it to the modders to fix it. Let the perma-paywallers head over to the next sims game. But I know that's not going to happen. I'm tired of updating my game, and things being broken, and shitty mediocre packs coming out for a game I don't even actually play. But even if I did, the packs aren't worth it.

Any other New Year's resolutions?

I've never really been one to make them, seeing as I never follow through with any self-imposed goals or deadlines. I need external pressure in order to get anything done. (Hence why I never post my story, despite desperately wanting to progress with it.) It would be nice to beat my 57 books I read last year. (although seeing as I literally only read when I was home from college, I'd say 57 is pretty good.) Oh, and more importantly, I would love to actually write some stuff for my non-sims writing projects. Maybe finally get my shit together and decide on characters and do some worldbuilding for my "high fantasy wip" project. And ofc, I want to keep playing DnD and see how my characters grow! I'd also love to give DM-ing another shot this year, because despite how chaotic and sometimes stressful it is, I do love it.

Firstly, I love your blog. It helped a lot with me accepting my sexuality along with faith. This year my New Years resolution is to get closer to God. I was wondering if you had any advice beyond prayer and scripture? I had been feeling so distant and anxious lately and I really want to recommit. Thank you so much for this blog and all that you are doing. I don't know where I'd be without you.

Hey there! It moves me so much to hear that my blog has been a help to you. And it’s wonderful that you’re hoping to recommit and grow closer to God in the coming year!

Prayer is the first and foremost way to grow in relationship to God; and scripture is one of our primary lenses into learning about who God is and Their relationship with us. But there are certainly other things to supplement those efforts along with praying and reading scripture.

Another place we get to know God is through other people. Our Triune God is a relational God – is a relationship within Themself, a relationship that spills over into all Creation. Made in the image of this relational God, we are called to exist in community, and to get to know God in community. Thus finding a group with whom you can talk about God is important. That might be a church community, or it might be family members or a group of friends who would agree to talk to you about faith and God. It might be a discord server or other online group – you can find some of those as well as some other community options in the Community section of my FAQ. When you learn about people, you learn about the God who loves them so dearly. 

Another way to enter into relationships with other people that will help you grow in your relationship with God is through service. Find organized or spontaneous ways to serve, and ask God to let you be God’s hands for others. Our God, in Jesus, came “not to be served but to serve,” and we are called to love our neighbor in all we do. That being said, learn to let yourself be served as well – on the night of the Last Supper, Jesus insisted on washing his disciples’ feet, saying they must in order to have a part in him. It can be hard to let ourselves be served – it requires giving up pride and becoming vulnerable. But we must both serve and be served, to give others the chance to express their love for us; I always think of the line in “The Servant Song”: “Will you let me be your servant / Let me be as Christ to you; / Pray that I may have the grace to let you be my servant too.”

Nature is another place where God reveals something of Themself to us and we might go to seek God. In fact, early Franciscans considered the cosmos to be the “first Bible,” the first revelation of God (source). Take walks or go on runs, get involved in a garden or look into conservation efforts. Invite God into your experience of nature and seek the divine in all this beautiful world has to offer.

You might find books other than the Bible useful for growing in your relationship with God. I have a #recommendations tag with a lot of good books, many of which have meant a lot to my own faith life. If books aren’t your style, there are podcasts you can try as well. Many find music to be a useful way for growing close to God.

Finally, you asked for suggestions besides prayer, but you might find some different ways to pray that you find helpful. I like casual chatting with God throughout the day – inviting God into everyday moments like a good meal, a moment of boredom or anger, a bit of stress or bout of laughter.

Thank you for tagging me for resolutions @tsfennec!! So, if you want, write down 10 resolutions for 2018 and then come back to them by the end of 2018 and see how they went! Generally I don’t do new years resolutions because I feel like there’s nothing easier to break than a new years resolution. But I do have some goals and things I intend to accomplish in 2018. So I think instead of resolutions these are more my Intentions the New Year.

Improve my Korean and reach out to make friends with a native speaker

Fully learn PHP and see what I can acomplish with it

Lean on others more both in accepting their help and in asking for it

Take better care of my physical health

Learn to cook better and more often

Wear more styles I like and be less afraid to experiment with the fashions I like

Slow down and be less afraid of big changes

Be less afraid of making mistakes

Tell people how much I love and appreciate them more

Learn to sing again

Movie nr. 1: The Avengers

So, trying to keep up with my new year's resolutions (which is to watch at least one movie that i haven't seen before every month), I watched Avengers. It wasn't 100 % my choice, we were together with my family and wanted to watch something light. But oh boi.

From what I understood through cultural osmosis, the 1st Avengers is supposed to be the good Avengers movie. If that's so, then... I don't know. I just don't know.

The Avengers was the blandest movie I have seen in years. I am not going to jump to any conclusions about the state of cinematography or so, so don't take me too seriously, I just basically want to complain and share my feelings. Because... THIS is the cultural icon???

It might also be because I had previously only seen Iron Man 1 and Thor, and that was a long time ago, but the characters just have no time to breathe, to exist, to interact. Their personality is shown to the viewer through a couple of one liners. In itself, I don't find the superhero premise too silly, I mean for example Bruce Banner could be an extremely interesting character if they only let him.

There was so much happening in the plot and I was bored out of my mind the whole time. I did not care about any single one of the characters.

I am slightly mad, but mostly just disappointed. Because the whole time I thought that while yes, late Marvel has the reputation of being just "content", there must have been something to the first marvel movies, right? Otherwise it wouldn't have been such a cultural icon, right? Right???

Anyway, I have seen a movie this month. And I am still glad I have done it.
