no but the way ash's journey started was insane bc:

day 1: almost died

day 2: started getting stalked by the mafia for the rest of his life

once ash becomes world champion he enters a contest circuit as a sidequest. right

even though he's only ever tied for a ribbon before (iirc), the regional contest circuit makes him enter the super rank. bc, y'know, you can't have the world champion out here murking level 6 rattattas.

ash entering contests becomes controversial to the other champions and elite four. bc, despite giving it an honest try, ash's contest technique is... not great! and even though sometimes he can power thru and still win, there's multiple times where he loses. publicly. to coordinators who are skilled, but not creme de la creme. (he also doesn't use his "strongest" pokemon all the time, which increases his chances of losing.) and some argue- that's not a great look for a champion!

but others argue that ash is ushering in a new era, where maybe the best trainers don't have to seclude themselves to only what they're strongest at. maybe the best trainers are the ones with an open heart, who never lose curiosity over what they can learn and how they can better connect with their pokemon :'))
