Two Girl’s Destruction of Men
“Daisies” directed by Vera Chytilová is a 1966 Czechoslovak comedy drama film that follows two girls both named Marie who embark on impish dismantling of the patriarchy. When they realize the world is spoiled, they decide to be spoiled too which involves destructive pranks on men, structure, and overall systematic oppression.
It was refreshing to see two women be silly and devious on screen and be the ones who have power over men. My favorite scene was when a man was professing his love for Marie over the phone while she casually cuts a sausage and then a banana.
One thing I noticed throughout the film was the constant pitter patter of their feet. While we do hear footsteps in film, it never is accentuated as much as it is in this film which must be intentional. Maybe their click clack of heels is supposed to symbolize them leaving their mark on the world and leaving their trace of destruction on the patriarchy.
