One Leg, No Urgency
Some afternoons seem determined to slow everything down.
The pond was full of small movements. Ripples spread across the water. People wandered along the paths. Light shifted almost imperceptibly beneath the trees.
The mallard wasn't interested in any of it.
It stood on one leg at the water's edge, head tucked beneath a wing, completely at ease with the world carrying on around it.
There was no sense of performance.
No urgency.
Just a quiet pause that seemed to belong entirely to the bird.
Looking back, I realise that was what caught my attention more than the duck itself.
Not the colours.
Not the reflection.
The stillness.
Sometimes a photograph isn't about finding something extraordinary.
It's about recognising a moment that was never asking to be noticed in the first place.
