This is one of the prayers that are common across the Enniate and Shandar people in Firestorm. The deity of death, Himes the Eternal, is one of what I call the tier 1 deities, together with Marai, the deity of Relations, and Erith, Father Time.
The Resting prayer is the first thing said when you meet a person that has just lost a loved one, especially if you are close to them, as a gesture of comfort and consolation as well as one of respect. It is also what commences a funeral.
All nouns and descriptors are altered in respect to how the person was addressed while alive, and especially the later part of the third sentence is subject to change.
(I freely admit that I’m not good at rhymes, please bear with me)
The Resting prayer
"Himes, we give you [name], to watch them sleep.
Forever, Eternal, yours to keep.
Themselves first and foremost, but friend, lover, teacher too.
Himes, unbind them from life's chains,
ease their aches and pains.
No more struggle, regret, or sorrow,
await them in the morrow.
No one is them testing;
Eternally they are resting.
They sleep with you, Himes.
They sleep, with you."
Writing the scenes this spawned from kind of hurt, and my protags aren’t too happy with me at the moment.. (^~^;)ゞ

– 2x11: Vengeance is Mine
There’s no’ much I can say waking without it sounding daft and foolish, Sassenach. I can say things while you sleep. Your dreams will ken the truth of them.
