After skiing the Ruby Marsh, we headed northward toward the Christensen Road portal. We got onto Pow Pow which is used as a winter bike trail before going backcountry again and picking up the Lake Annie Trail and finishing up the 3 ½ hour ski. There is tremendous winter beauty throughout the woods in Churning Rapids!

Our next objective on the Retro Ski would be Ruby Marsh. We approached it from the Longbridge Trail and proceeded to ski a large figure 8 across it led by John. If you have a chance to ski at Maasto Hiihto and Churning Rapids, I highly recommend going off trail to check out this beautiful area!

This past Sunday afternoon I dusted off my 1970s cross country ski equipment for the Keweenaw Nordic Ski Club’s Retro Ski at Maasto Hiihto and Churning Rapids. Starting the 3 ½ hour adventure at the Tomasi trailhead, we headed out in largely backcountry environs for Swedetown Creek where we crossed over a beaver dam!
