P6 - Revision to Statement of Intent
P6 - Narrative Imaging
Third statement of intent for narrative imaging project
________________________________________________________________________________________
After a number of tutorials and discussions on the topic of my intentions and how best to interpret and visualise the subject of my work, creation and the stories built up around it. I feel I have narrowed my focus down to a final idea.
"Everything starts from a dot". - Wassily Kandinsky
The stories of creation are all around us and reside in everyone and everything, the past is linked to the present and also speaks of the future through the objects and the emotions of our every day world. Everything has a beginning and will evolve through time to it's natural conclusion. It is this sense of the beginning that I hope to pursue in the world around me.
"The creation of a thousand forests is in one acorn". - Ralph Waldo Emerson
With my work I will explore the feelings and sense of truth that creation provoke in me. I will place them variously in a human context, emotional framework and place in space and time to highlight that they are after all a construct of the human mind and only hold any truth in relation to this. My work will also be about photography's ability to convey emotion and thought through abstractions of form and colour. I intend therefore to work in the Modernist mode of the Expressionists.

Equipment
After much concideration I have chosen to forego the use of the large format camera and the colour film for the use of digital. This is primarily due to the intended size of the final work which will be of a small nature to draw the audience in and also the ability to review the progress of the project through its stages to completion. I will be using a Nikon D300 with a technique called free lensing to change the relationship between the focal plane of the image sensor and the lens. This technique is rather haphazard and will allow for some interesting and random results which will fit into the intention of my brief. With the camera I have a choice of lenses to chose from, these include:
135mm f/2.8 OM mount HOYA telephoto lens
28mm f/2.8 OM mount Olympus wide angle lens
50mm f/1.4 F mount Nikon standard lens
17-70mm f/2.8-4.5 F mount Sigma zoom lens
I will be using Glycerin on the lenses to further allow randomness into the work.
