Hello! If you’ve come from the AO3 fic, or have just seen this around the dash (you can find the fic in question here) there’s obviously a lot I left out in the original AN for the sake of space and not letting you read 10 paragraphs of background information before you even get to the fic.
INTRO/BACKGROUND
Revival is entirely based in ASOIAF/GOT and is set in Westeros (also partly in Essos but only through references.) You don’t need a crazy amount of GOT background knowledge to read but there are a lot of things that are replicated from the original series like titles, cultures, religions, lore elements, etc.
The place names are the same eg, Kings Landing, Westeros, Dragonstone, etc, BUT the great houses are not the same. Every Formula One team corresponds to a great house save for Alpha Tauri and Haas. In saying that most of this was written before the team name changes for AT and Alfa Romeo so they are still AT/AR instead of VCARB and Stake/Kick F1 team. The driver lineup as it stands at the start of the 2023 season is also the same, Daniel doesn’t have a seat (titles, lands, great house etc) and Nyck is in his place at Alpha Tauri. The full list of Great Houses and their F1 teams will be somewhere below. I took a lot of creative liberties in making this but they all make sense in some way.

It could’ve been so much easier to make the crownlands/the Targaryens/the King based on who topped the WDC that year, but then how would we get Loscar as Kings of the Seven Kingdoms???? Logan and Oscar don’t get a fancy new house they share the crownlands, and they don’t marry into each others house, they keep their respective titles/cultures. It’s semi similar to how Joffrey is when he’s crowned with both the Lannister and Stag banners even though he takes the baratheon name.
Because Westeros is essentially F1/European single seaters (lower formula’s are mentioned throughout), Essos can be equated to Indycar/North and South American motorsport. The only thing of note there is that Arrow McLaren are essentially the cousins of the Westeros McLaren house, so Pato is Oscar and Lando’s somewhat distant cousin.
Maxiel endgame is coming though trust and believe. There’s lots of endgame actually, not all ships are tagged just because some don’t impact the main storyline that much and I didn’t want to clog tags of minor ships. LOL (Liam/Oscar/Logan), Loscar and Maxiel are the main ships you can expect.
FAMILY
There’s also a lot to say in terms of family relations, because I made it very hard for myself in the early stages and now I can’t back out. Every Head of House/Warden is technically the biological father of all of the children of that house. I do need to say explicitly here though that there is no mpreg. Because there’s a definitve lack of women in F1 especially in this story every son of whoever is technically, logistically a bastard, though they are legitimised. I’m still working on making family trees so this will be updated when I finally get around to it. The mothers of most of the characters are implied to be highborn women who act as surrogates/wetnurses and most will not have any part in the fic. No Mpreg. Everyone’s just kind of half-related to each other.
So that obviously raises the question, if everyone is kind of half related to each other and driver transfers between teams still occur, doesn’t that mean that incest would be rampant? Yes and no. I’m using the drivers FIRST team they entered formula one with as their parent house. Seb for example is at Toro Rosso, then RB, then Ferrari, then Aston Martin. He’s like Christian’s adopted son and is most often referred to as a RB boy even if he’s been a part of four other houses. This means he’s not related to Mark biologically so martian is not incest (because Mark’s first team was Williams.)
Of course if you have specific questions about certain possible driver pairings please send them my way and I can correct them. Generally speaking if a driver was “born” at a house and then moves away as a ward/adopted child the relationships he forms with a driver that’s born from the house they just joined it’s not blood related.
HEED THE TAGS!
There are some biases within this that are very present. Christian Horner is and will continue to be the enemy in this fic. I’d recommend heeding the warnings and tags. Yes this fic will contain child abuse elements as well as dysfunctional family units, specifically surrounding RB, it will also contain some canon typical incest elements. It’s not like overtly, just keep in mind most characters are related to each other.
Because this is Game of Thrones we obviously have to kill some characters off to get the ball rolling, hence the major character death tags. They’re mostly background characters, killed to be used as plot devices. I won’t give the full list just so I can still keep most things secret but the major death in chapter 1 is Mattia Binotto who is both the head of house ferrari AND hand of the king. It’s supposed to be a Jon Arryn style plot point bc if you’ve read/watched GOT then we all know that he also dies at the start of the series, the only difference here is that the Hand isn’t an Arryn/Alpine he’s a Ferrari. There are a lot more connections I’ve made between both HOTD and GOT that will be revealed as we go along but if you’re never not sure of anything, please, please send me an ask or a message. I have lots of thoughts about everything I've cooked up in here.
The dragons we will get to inevitably, maybe chapter two or three. Unlike GOT s1 dragons aren’t extinct, it’s more similar to HOTD where there are multiple under the control of the crown but also wild ones. The names are yet to be decided, but both logan and oscar have living, breathing dragons. well-

For reference, I don’t think I’ve put it up the top but Act 1 is about 17 chapters long, Act 2 is about 15 and Act 3 is about 5 chapters long. It’s about 37 in total if I don’t decide on an epilogue.

To end all of this, Revival is my baby. My pride and joy. This is year 3 and version 4 of working on this, and this current version didn’t exist until August of last year. I want to thank my best friend, even though he’s only started receiving snippets of fic very recently in the grander timeline of writing this, because again your unwavering support has been key through me trying to explain basic concepts and making them infinitely hard.
