Shane lifts one eyelid again to look at Rozanov. His eyes are red-rimmed. Like he’s been crying. “Why…why aren’t you in Boston?” Rozanov’s brow furrows. “Why would I be in Boston?” “You, you’re captain. Raiders. Boston.” The room is silent except for the beeping of monitors.

In 2023, Shane takes a bad hit on the ice. When he wakes up, the last thing he remembers is a tuna melt.

this one i started today it's a wip and the first chapter is driving me crazy i can't stop thinking about it. they're 6 years apart shane's older and been playing longer and ilya gets traded or whatever to shane's team. it's reallyyyy fun to see shane more confident and. settled? harder to provoke. around ilya. soooo many fun scenes that are like. shane doing something normal that puts ilya on PLANET HOLLANDER so ilya's voice is entirely strangled. while shane is like. and for some reason rozanov was looking at him funny.

this one is my favorite time loop so far. kind of by far. i think it shies away from easy ways out which is awesome. it's great to see like. the shifts between discombobulation and confidence.

It is like looking in a mirror: rage pulled over terror, the sickly fire of spitefulness kept blazing bright in an attempt to mask the despair beneath.

This is a mask Julien has vanished behind often.

Occtis' irises almost shake as he stares him down and demands: "Why do you care?"

His knee-jerk instinct is to deny even caring. I don't. You can choke for all I give a shit. His heart isn't into it, though; it would feel cruel to answer Occtis' bark with a bite of his own, after the wretched night they've had so far on top of all the Tachonis bullshit he's learned about over the past two weeks.

Julien opens his mouth, closes it — struggling to find an answer that does not ring of pity. Occtis stares at him unblinkingly with eyes that seem to burn brighter from the necromantic miasma that permeates deep into each stone of the manor; there's an edge of despair to the way his chest has stilled, something suspended and pleading in his perfectly still, unnaturally stiff posture. He is barely an adult, Julien remembers; it's a detail that's easy to forget, both because of Occtis' usual demeanor and of the dire situation they've all found themselves in, but his youth manifests clearly in that moment.

Why do you need me? Why do you care?

A child, begging for a pat on the back. A kid deprived of connection for so long that his only way to ask for it is to throw a tantrum. Julien feels tired, all of a sudden; it's an impulse too familiar to be mad at.

That doesn't mean he's the right person to ask. He can't afford to care, not right now — most of all, cannot afford to show it. So instead of answering something like I don't want you to get hurt, he brings up the other Tachonis' obscure plans.

He watches Occtis' face fall and shut down as he speaks, and can't bring himself to genuinely mind when the man bares his teeth and lashes out at him. Still, he doesn't think twice before following Occtis back into the manor.
