I really really should go back and finish writing Overconditioned someday because a) petplay is cool, b) "manipulative feedee" is such a funny way to characterize kantarou, and c) having the Manipulative Feedist character be a feedee instead of a feeder is, while still not what I'd call good representation, at least a nice break from the usual stereotype #RepresentationMatters #BadRepresentationMatters
I saw a tag on an Avatar fic that said Stop #Vilifying Bloodbending. And I get what they probably mean. Bloodbending probably has a lot of uses in the healing part of waterbending. Like with clots and nicked arteries and stuff. But I find the tag funny, because it's not like the fandom is what vilified it. The show did! It was actually a big part of the late stage themes of the show. Because before then we saw fire as the bad destructive element and water as the good healing element. This was the first time that a waterbender was the villain (not just antagonist) and a part of waterbending was seen as evil. It kind of parallels later in the season when we learn that fire is not just destruction. It is also life. There is no way to use bloodbending as presented in the show in a moral way. Even when Katara had to use it to save Aang and Sokka, it was shown to be horrifying. Because it takes away a person's autonomy (and also probably tortures them physically considering the way their limbs bend). I'm not trying to hate on this author. That's why I wrote this post rather than commenting on the fic and why I didn't share the fic name. This just feels a bit like a "did we watch the same show?" moment since bloodbending is never shown in a positive light in the show. We don't have any proof it could be used for anything but controlling people.

It’s stupid to get so worked up about a guinea pig, but it’s not really Ambrose himself so much as what he represents. Conceptually. Scientifically.
