Chuckling softly “honey these experts have one thing on their mind. Making money. The way they do that is to convince us that we need all this. They don’t care how special it is as long as we buy what they’re selling.”

“That’s …” giggling she tossed the magazine she was holding on the coffee table. “That’s one of the most unromantic things I’ve ever heard.”

“But rue,” he closed the dozen or so magazines and scooped them up. “We don’t need these so-called experts. Let’s just call our parents and ask them to help us plan our special day. It’ll be what we want without all the stuff we don’t need just because it’s fashionable.”

“Yeah I know,” he flipped through the pages of one of the magazines until he found a marked page. “We don’t need fancy place settings. It’s only going to be us. My brother. Your brother. Their SO’s and our parents. A few friends.”

“Yeah but,” sighing she gave him a little pout. “It’s our special day. I want it to feel and look special.”

Taking her hand “it will be special because I’ll be marrying the most wonderful girl in the world. We don’t need to spend a fortune for just one day just to prove how special it is.”

“I know but the experts say…”

Rex entered the living room, stopped and almost walked out when he noticed all the bridal magazines spread out on the coffee table. Smiling up at him “busy planning the wedding” internally groaning as he sat down beside her.

“According to all the experts we’re already months behind,” she buried her face inside one of the magazines.

“I thought we were keeping it simple,” he felt his stomach lurch as he noticed some of the prices on the page. There was no way he was going to be able to afford all of this.

“We are,” she glanced up at him, a slight frown on her face. “But even the simplest wedding requires a lot of planning.”

“Thanks,” he mumbled, letting his brother give him a hug. “I don’t know what I feel right now. All I know is he makes me feel good.”

“You have our support no matter what” Rex assured him.

“Yeah I know” he grinned “so what can I do to help?”

“Sandi will turn you into a right lil housewife in no time” Rex teased to their combined groans.

Rex raised an eyebrow at that “is this friend a new girl you met? Someone you’re interested in?”

“No” shaking his head “he’s just a friend.”

“He” his eyebrows rose higher “since when have you been interested in guys?”

“I’m not” his face turned beet red even though he knew his twin was only teasing him.

“Rex stop” Sandi implored him “it’s not funny.”

“Yeah alright” he gave his brother a concerned look “it’s alright if you are. If this guy makes you happy I say go for it. I just want to see you happy.”

“What do you mean?” Sandi asked.

“The party tonight” Grant reminded her “the one you wanted my help with.”

“Oh yeah” Rex gave his fiance a questioning look, “I forgot”

“So did I” she looked around the kitchen. “I suppose you already invited your friend?”

“I can cancel” he offered, trying to keep the disappointment he felt from showing in face and voice. He’d been looking forward to seeing Kade again. Although he’d be lying if he said he wasn’t somewhat relieved. “Don’t worry about it if you haven’t invited anyone else I’ll just call him. I should have asked if it was still on.”

Sandi hurried around the kitchen towards him. Her small hand on his arm stopping him from leaving “don’t. I’ll call Kyle and Douglas over. We’ll have an intimate dinner.”

Clearing his throat Grant watched the happy couple jump upon hearing his voice. “Am I disturbing you” he asked “should I come back later.”

“Um” Sandi took a step backwards “no.”

Rex gave his brother a frown before grinning anxious to share the good news. “We’re engaged” he announced his excitement taking control.

“What” he asked as if he hadn’t heard what he thought he heard. Sandi waved her hand around showing off the glittering diamond on her ring finger. “Congratulations,” he said, giving his brother  a hug and slap on the back before giving his soon to be sister-in-law a hug. “I should go” he suggested “I’m sure you want to celebrate.”
