“You’re not ugly,” he stepped towards her arms open wide. He was shocked when she ran into his arms, snuggling against him, trembling.
“Thank you,” she murmured, her lips moving against his neck “it’s nice of you to say even if it’s not true.”
His skin tingled at the softness of her lips touching his skin. He longed to gather her in his arms, to hold her tight. “I meant what I said,” almost unable to hear himself over the loudness of his heart beating in his chest. “Will you be my date?” he big his lip as she gazed up at him, her eyes large and alarmed. “To the summer social, I mean.”
She moved her head, shaking it a little “you should go with someone else. Someone you can have fun with.”
He took a tentative step forward, wrapping an arm around her breathing in her clean fresh scent beneath the slight medicinal smell she retained from her stay in the hospital. “There’s no one else I want to go with. You’re the only girl I want to go with.”
