Captain Rex relationship headcanons

Pairing: Captain Rex x fem!reader Warnings: none, sfw A/N: you know life's getting bad when you gotta bring in the childhood comfort character (he never really left)

he's in love with your soul. connecting with him is more than physical attraction or mutual interest---when he loves you, he loves you. it's admiration, reverence, companionship. he connects with the deepest parts of you, even healing some part of your inner child you thought you lost. loving him goes so far beyond romance or lust, it's hard to even put a label on it.

he kisses your scars, no matter where they came from. to him, it's not a sappy gesture or anything, he just feels your hurt so deeply and doesn't know how else to express his desire to make it better---to cover up your pain with love. he does it when he sees you at night, defenses down and comfied up in his bed, wearing a t shirt of his or nothing at all. he'll softly, mindlessly find your scars, trace them with his fingertips, then press his lips gently to the broken flesh. all he wants to do is be something for you, something that makes you feel better in any little way he can.

he guides you with a hand on your lower back. it's more of a subconscious thing he does, not giving it much thought when he does it, but it always gives you butterflies

he's quiet. just in general. when he's with you, he prefers listening to you talk, or even just sitting in silence, just enjoying being with you

he’s very non-confrontational. it’s hard to argue with him because he never really lets himself get angry

he handles your emotions very well. you try not to get worked up at or around him, but even when you just need to angrily rant about your day, or accidentally snap at him when you’re overwhelmed, all he does is deescalate by hugging you softly and asking what’s really wrong.

he hates needles and medical settings in general. he prefers to have you with him if he ever needs to be in a medbay, although he’s hesitant to outright ask you, not wanting to seem incapable of going by himself. but no matter how many times he’s had to, it really never gets easier

he internalizes a lot of his feelings. he RARELY gets angry at you, and never lashes out. he also rarely will tell you what he’s feeling as soon as he’s feeling it. but if something’s on his mind, it will bubble over late at night when he feels safest in bed with you. he’ll either quietly tell you what’s going on, or you’ll feel his body tense and see the tiny streaks of tears on his cheeks that he tries to hide.

he’s romantic in his own way. he’s not big on planning huge events, but he’s very spontaneous—waking you up in the middle of the night to go look at how pretty the stars are, finding rare flowers for you when you’re stationed on different planets, randomly doing your tasks for you and not telling you until you realize they’ve already been done. and everything comes from the heart, nothing is done to try to overly impress you. his actions do nothing but show how much he deeply cares for you.
