“So light ‘em up, up, up... I’m on fiiiiiiiyaaaaah!”
Kirk belted one of his favorite Fall Out Boy songs from behind the shower curtain, complete with an electrifying performance on the electric guitar as the water hit his back. If they were getting ready in Rowan’s apartment, it’d be totally different; her roomy bathroom would offer her more than enough space to get ready and he wouldn’t even dare to ruin the calming atmosphere with pop punk. But they were prepping for date night at his place. It was cramped and definitely boyish, a spot he used to share with two roommates before they moved out, but of course they left their messy traces all over the apartment. The size of his was a lot of the reason why he liked spending time at Rowan’s, so much so that a lot of his stuff was already at her place.
(To tell you the truth, he’d been thinking about proposing-- that is, proposing to move in together at some point during this dinner date. He just needed to make sure he could find the right time to bring it up.)
Once he finished the song, he turned off the shower with a squeak before opening the shower curtains to see Rowan again, who’d been doing her makeup at his tiny sink with horrible bathroom lighting. It probably wasn’t helping that the hot steam coming out of the shower would fog up the mirrors, too. He had to give the girl props: She dealt with a lot for him. “Hey, beautiful,” he said, grinning, feeling good after his shower. He reached for his towel and dried off before stepping out, wrapping it around his waist and pressing a kiss to her neck, knowing she may not have put makeup there. Of course, his skin was still wet, so he might’ve gotten droplets of water on her from his hair.
Before he got in the shower, she’d still been picking out her dress, so finally seeing her in it was a delight. He placed his hand on her lower back to check her out. “If you go out like that, I might have to be your bodyguard instead of your boyfriend,” he chuckled.
Fully aware that his sink was small and that he had no business butting in during her beauty routine, he playfully nudged himself beside her and pulled out some of his own products from behind the mirror. A little bit of hair gel, some cologne, deodorant... he messily placed his items right next to her own, bottle of hair gel clumsily falling into the sink and causing her lotion to go down with it. “Whoops,” he said. He was messing with her; he felt especially playful tonight, fueled by the giddiness of having a date night. They’d both been busy at work this week, with Kirk swamped at the cafe training new hires for the upcoming fall back-to-school season and Rowan prepping her lesson plans and attending countless meetings at the university. So he was more than excited to be having some time alone with his girlfriend, especially if he’d get to take her out somewhere nice and fancy.
