Hi! My step dad and I have been having really bad migraines and all the health professionals do is give us OTC stuff, but he has been really rude to me and I lash out back because I'm in pain too, but I know it needs to stop. I've t (1/2) -rhannahcat
talked to him but it doesn't help. What do I do? (2/2) -rhannahcat P.S., feel free to post this publicly.
I'm sorry that the health professionals haven't been giving you the solution that you've been needing. What I'd really recommend in that regard is seeing if you can book in to see a different doctor, to get a second opinion. Let them know about these migraines that you've been suffering, and that the doctor that you've seen previously will only recommend over the counter medication which isn't working. They may be able to look into other options for you, such as medication that requires a prescription. In my personal experience, changing doctors or getting a second opinion can be very helpful. I think that this would also be a really good idea, as if you find a solution to the migraines, these arguments may settle too.
One thing that I suggest taking a look at, to help stop the lashing out, is our page about Managing Anger. This helps you to identify triggers, and be able to control the thoughts that come on as a result of your step-dad's rude comments. Of course, in the long run, it needs to be something that you both work on, but for now managing those feelings that you're experiencing may help to reduce the fighting, which in turn can reduce the frequency or intensity of migraines.
