merthur again :) this fandom will forever have me in a chokehold. it's like my comfort fandom. i visit for joy.

i've recced @katherynefromphilly's We Begin Again series before, but yeah. read it!! SO worth your time. this quote is from Our Destinies Our Own (the sequel to And like the cycle of the year, we begin again): "That's the way I love you. Like the earth loves its magic."

makes my earth tremble, for me specifically. couldn't decide on one mood, so made two wallpapers for this one! i feel like the first one captures that earth shattering feel, while the second one is more peaceful, closer to the way it was said in the actual fic.

Summary: Canon AU, court sorcerer AU. Merlin accidentally makes everyone in the castle fall in love with him. Of course, Arthur has to help him fix it, because he is somehow the only one unaffected...

Notes: Aaaaa. Arthur's POV is just the best here! He is so so sweet and stupid and emotionally stunted, and his endless attempts at getting his heart to stfu are so hilarious misguided, but he was also perfect and brave and strong and in-character. This is the Arthur I wanted to see in the show. Also, it's just so nice to read this because it has plot, and great writing, but no conflict or stress really, so it's really soothing for the soul. This fic just makes me laugh and smile a lot. Tbh, this might be my favorite Merthur fic of all time, and it's definitely my favorite canon au. The perfect balance of everything.

Notes: So absolutely gorgeous! I go back and read this one all the time when I feel the need to cry over something beautiful. It's poetic and haunting, and captures their characters perfectly. My first ever fairy-tale AU and my favorite 'till date :) Giselleslash (@gigi-gigi) is one of my most favorite Merthur authors, and if you like this one, you should definitely read all their other stuff too.

Ok wallpapers! This quote is right at the end (literally the last line) of the fic, so stop scrolling if you don't want to ruin that for yourself. I loved it so much that I made three different versions of the same thing, because different vibes yk?

I feel like this one most accurately fit the image the author originally painted in the description, so I wanted to include it.

This one most closely matched the aesthetic I had in mind, the way I interpreted the fic after reading it :)

This also fits the feeling/mood of the fic really well, especially the darker aspects of it.

So Merlin/merthur (same thing right?) is trending again because of this wonderful beautiful fandom, and I would like to contribute to the madness with another fic rec. This one is devastating, so proceed with caution.

Notes: I mean, this one will probably definitely kill you. VERY effective if you need a good cry, and even if you don't, you'll still cry. I'm not very coherent after reading this, but just know that I save my favorite quotes from books, fics, and TV and when I went back to comb through this fic for quotes, I basically quoted the entire thing. So, it's beautiful.

Uther Ships Merthur - Fic Rec

I love fics with the trope where Uther isn't horrible, because it just means a life for Arthur that is so much happier than it was. Here's my favorite fic where Uther isn't all that bad:

Notes: This was hilarious and sweet and incredibly endearing. It's one of my comfort fics that I reread all the time.

Summary: Arthur and Merlin are the pillars of an actually huge group of friends, and Arthur is determined to hold up the pact that they made on their first day together: no dating each other. But through uni and the years after, Arthur's been secretly pining away for Merlin. When Gwen and Lancelot are the first to break the pact, all hell breaks loose.

Notes: This one is so fidging c u t e! And hilarious! skdnslknskl. I love huge, crazy friend groups/families, and I loved Arthur's (admittedly oblivious) POV! Also, him being out and proud from the start was nice to see! And I have to say, even though Merthur was the focus, each character and couple was given so much thought, nuance and detail. On the longer side, but you won't even notice :)

hello! i know i basically dropped off the face of the earth, but. life. :)

just read you've got the antidote for me by Kandakicksass and was absolutely destroyed, like the type of thing where i won't be able to read or enjoy anything else for a while, so thank you very much for your contributions to humanity 🙏🏽

Summary: Drarry, post-Hogwarts, soulmate au (soul bond), angst (SEVERE ANGST MANY TEARS) with a happy ending, terminal illness. Harry unknowingly rejects their soul bond before it can fully form, and Draco resigns himself to a slow and painful death.

Notes: SO many thoughts, the main one being that holy crap this is fantastic writing. this author was brave enough to reject the common fandom theory that Ron and Draco would never and could never be friends (he is actually the first to pull Draco out of his shell here). brave enough to not make Ron and Hermione soul bonded, though they are together anyway (beautiful touch). Draco is absolutely an unreliable narrator, given all of his self-loathing, which makes him so very in-character even though he is unable to really be himself (he's dying). the romance between Harry and Draco is understated and not the full focus of the fic, though it hits you like a train by the end. this fic truly understands the meaning of friendship. i cried very much, and felt very happy in the end very much. must read. (honestly i can't believe i haven't stumbled onto this before, but then i don't go looking for soulmate AUs in the HP world very often. obviously i've been mistaken.)

Summary: Post-Hogwarts, Draco Malfoy is still obsessed with Harry Potter, and it shows. His father makes him get therapy. Harry isn't doing much better on his part, either.

Comments: Aaaa this one is absolutely hilarious, without being crack (not that I have anything against crack). If you haven't read it, I guarantee it will turn into an amazing comfort fic that you'll find yourself going back to. Again, one of those fics where the only drama/angst is the get-together itself, though I can confidently say this fic is 100% angst-free!
