Rambling about Fairies - Rhodonite Chapter 2
So I know this spinoff isn’t canon, but it does intrigue me that there’s two Redfoxes.
Either Redfox is a name they came up with themselves, or it’s Mash’s name that he gave to Gajeel, or the other way around. They’re never quite referred to as brothers in this spinoff, which I’m rather sad about. I do like the idea that while Natsu and Wendy found ‘families’ to take care of them, Gajeel, who didn’t even have an Exceed for company, found a brother.
Natsu’s always had his last name. Of course, with Zeref, but before that, ‘Dragneel’ was clearly a name meant to reference Igneel. Though, we don’t see the same proof for the other dragons, and Natsu is the only one that’s been explicitly proven to have always had this last name--- though, it’s not really something that needs to be proven, so this is all speculation from vague clues.
It does interest me because last names are very common in the Fairy Tail universe, everyone’s got one, including crowd characters like Chico, Reedus, etc, with minor exceptions like Bickslow and Evergreen. There’s usually a reason when characters don’t have names, like Oracion Seis all not having last names except the Richard and Sorano, who have siblings. Erza's is used most preciously, with her name being a representation of her love for Jellal, and her real last name tying all the way back to Irene. Lucy’s was hidden uniquely to reveal her as a Heartfilia, it had plot significance.
So it’s a little fun to think that of the dragon kids, Gajeel possibly never had one.
Rogue’s name situation is also very unique, because he changed his name from Ryos. Did he also add his last name then?
