Bookish ask: 1, 3, 5, 6, 13-17, 25, 35, 36, 43, 47-50
What book did you last finish? When was that?De vervloeking (dutch translation of Thinner) by Stephen King. According to Goodreads, I finished it last wednesday. I wasn’t too impressed, if I have to be honest. Took me quite a while to get into it.
What book are you planning to read next? The time traveller’s wife by Audrey Niffenegger
Which book did you last re-read?De verschrikkelijke schoolmeester by Dolf Verroen. It’s about this horrible primary school teacher who locks kids into cages and how his class tries to get rid of him. Loved it as a kid, still love it now!
Which book was the last one you really, really loved?Uhm. According to Goodreads, it was Karin Slaughter’s latest book, which I ranked five stars. But the first thing that comes to mind, is the Noughts and Crosses series.
Name a book with a really bad movie/tv adaptionOh this is a hard one. I’m sitting in front of my bookshelves right now and for most books I’m like: Yeah, I’m not a big fan of the movie adaptation, but it’s not like…terrible. I was quite disappointed by the movie adaptation of Crusade in Jeans, tbh.
Name a book where the movie/tv adaption actually was better than the originalTHE BONES SERIES. Like, really. I LOVE the tv series. The books are okay, but the tv series makes the characters soooo much more likeable. I’m not sure if this counts though, since half of the tv characters aren’t in the book and vice versa. So…I think I slightly (but only slightly) prefer the movie of my sisters keeper to the book.
What book changed your life?Harry Potter. Or it has shaped my life, really. Since I was nine when I first read it.
If you could bring three books to a deserted island which would you bring and why?Depends. Like, am I getting picked up again after a few days or do I need to find my way to humanity on my own? Like, in the last case it would probably be smart to take some books on survival or something. But then again, would I be that smart? I’m guessing no. So I’d probably take....ehm. I DON’T KNOW THIS IS A SERIOUSLY HARD QUESTION OKAY? Ehm....I’m not gonna take a Harry Potter book, because the thought of not having the entire series just pains me. So...I’m guessing Crusade in jeans by Thea Beckman, De vrouw in de kooi bij Jussi Adler-Olsen and....The 100 year old man who climbed out of the window and disappeared.I guess. Ask me again in like two months, my answer will probably be different.
If you owned a bookshop what would you call it?I hate Jay and their hard questions.Or The F-side, because of inside-jokes.
If you could be a character from a book for just one day who would you be and why? (Bonus: any specific day in the story?)Hermione. And the day she finds out she’s a witch. Oh wait, that’s not included in the story. Then probably the day she decided to start S.P.E.W.
Name a book you consider to be terribly underratedThe Noughts and Crosses series do not get enough attention, if you ask me. Also Karin Slaughter’s Sara Linton/Will Trent series. Like, I love how those start out as different series and then just meet and mix and yes.
Name a book you consider to be terribly overratedAnna and the french kiss. So many people keep saying how amazing it is, but I wasn’t impressed. It’s not like I hated it, I just found it to be predictable and not very interesting. I did read both companion novels and found both to be better, but still...Overrated, in my opinion.
Are you the kind of person who reads several books at once or the kind of person who can only read one book at a time?Mostly just one book at the time, because I am invested in the story. Once in every while I’ll have like three or four books listed as currently reading, but even then I tend to focus on one of those four.
Do you like to listen to music when you read?It really depends. When I am on the train, I need music to focus, otherwise I get distracted by the conversations that people around me are having or their annoyingly loud breathing. When I am at home, it’s kinda fifty-fifty. Sometimes I prefer silence, and sometimes I need music to keep focused.
What do you do to get out of a reading slump?I try to not focus too much on the fact that I am in a slump. Reading is not a chore and there’s is no reason for me to pressure myself into reading a book a week or even multiple books a week. So what if I don’t reach my Goodreads challenge? As long as I had fun. Sometimes I just don’t feel like reading and that’s fine. That means I’ve got other things on my mind, like my job or volunteerwork or family or friends or that tv show I’m binge watching. The most annoying slumps are the ones where I really WANT to read but I just can’t seem to focus on books. I really don’t know how to deal with those...
Where is your favorite place to read?I spend most time reading on the train, but I really prefer either my couch or my bed.
When is your favorite time to read?Ehm....Whenever I have time to spare and my head feels “ready” for stories.
Why do you love to read?Because it allows me to completely shut out the “real” world and forget about my everyday life and just....Enjoy other people’s issues for a while. Because I get to make my very own beautiful movie in my head. Because it allows me another person’s perspective on things. Because I do.
