Rice Dumplings (粽子) are traditionally enjoyed during the Dragon Boat Festival, also called Duanwu Festival (端午节), which falls on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month (usually in June in the western calendar). They are also available all year round in Singapore 🇸🇬 unlike mooncakes (Mid-Autumn Festival) or pineapple tarts (Chinese New Year).

Nyonya Rice Dumpling (娘惹粽) is made with minced pork, candied winter melon and coriander powder just to name a few of the ingredients. Its taste is a sweetish savoury dumpling which makes it unique and yet addictive. Occasionally, a blue extract from the butterfly pea’s flower is used to colour the glutinous rice partially.
