Edition:02. The guaidest garden party.
A daughter of a Lady-in-waiting to the Queen was holding a garden party the Saturday before the start of the ball rush. Lilly was her name by the looks of the aforementioned flower decorating all the centerpieces. Victoria and Lilly were aquantineces, running into each other at the theatre quite often.
Making sure that one Victoria De Angelis would bring her, friends along with her.
‘Be such a shame to have the only beauty there be the flowers-’ Lilly said to Victoria one afternoon while planning the party. ‘You could invite them, you know? Some of the other girls are bringing their brothers and cousins. See who likes whooo’ in a teasing tone.
Victoria grinned at the idea. ‘Of course Lilly, I think they would love to. Even if they don’t I will make them go-’
‘Brilliant, ta ta now!’
And so it was decided simply. Boy meets girls, girl meets boy, see if magic happens.
That afternoon Victoria, Ethan, Thomas, and Damiano sat around a white table in a garden surrounded by flowers. Men in black suits walked around giving pastries and macaroons, refilling teas.
All the women of high society did laps around the greenery. Giggling and pointing at things as young women tend to do at these events. Chatting about who has been betrothed to whom, what is someone wearing, the food and what not.
‘Oh isn’t it lovely! You Victoria! Your dress! Absolutely beautiful- almost divine’ Damiano dramatically fussed in a high pitch.
‘And you! Looking dapper and dashing as ever!’ She mocked back. The company around them scowled at their teasing. Far impolite was being whispered on the wind.
“So, Victoria- You said your cousin was coming to London?” Thomas spoke, mouth full with macaroons.
“Yes she is, she is supposed to meet us here in fact. She said she was wearing Pink? I haven’t seen her since I was young- but I don’t think we have changed that much.”
From behind a wall of topiary hedge a woman in a pink dress emerged as if on cue.
Her skin was well kept, hair perfectly done up for this kind of event.
“COUSIN!! VICTORIA!” She shouted from across the way. Picking up her skirt she started running. Victoria whipped around to see the woman run to her. She followed suit. Getting up and starting to go to her cousin.
What was not planned was in the midst of their excitement a butler with a tray of champagne walked just into the line of fire. The woman toppled over the butler, causing the drink to splash all over her dress.
“Oh my god! Damnit- I am so sorry sir! I did not see you!” Victoria started laughing at the mess that was caused. He mumbled something and left.
“COUSIN!” Victoria screamed, throwing her arms around the woman. “It has been so long Y/n! How are you?? How are the puppies!” Taking her hand and leading her back to the table.
“You never said your cousin was from America Victoria-” Ethan noted looking just above his book.
“Oh hi sir! I’m not actually, I was born in Rome. My father moved us to America for business. Haven’t exactly retained the accent- but full blooded I promise you!” With a giant dopey smile Y/n introduced herself to the table.
“So hello, I am Y/n L/n. You know Victoria is my cousin. And this is not how I wanted to meet all of you-” Referencing that she was stained in champagne.
“Eh it suits anyone from the De Angelis family to cause a stir- I am Thomas by the way” Nodding to the new person sitting next to him.
“Mr. Torchio- or they all call me Ethan.” stating plainly more invested in his reading.
“Damiano say Hello-” Victoria teased, smacking him with her glove.
While this whole thing was going on Damiano sat dumbfounded at the American girl who within a few minutes brought all eyes onto her. Intentional or not.
‘Ciao bella-’ he winked at her. Y/n leaned back. Looked at Victoria and she smirked. He put the pipe from his pocket to his lips, trying to get the tobacco to light.
Is he always like this?
Yes yes he is.
