For Robin Trower, 2016 Means a New Album and a U.S. Tour
Robin Trower is readying a new album and preparing to hit the road for a tour of the United States.
Where You are Going To, the follow-up to 2015’s Something’s About to Change, is set for release March 25. Trower will support the album with a 28-city tour launching March 30 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and wrapping May 7 in Royal Oak, Mich.
In a short trailer promoting the tour, the 71-year-old former Procol Harum guitarist, surrounded by Marshall amps and Stratocaster guitars, says he’ll weave old and new solo material into his sets; Trower never acknowledges his Procol days in his shows.
“I always have to play the classic stuff from the first couple of albums, the first three albums,” he says, referring to Twice Removed from Yesterday, Bridge of Sighs and For Earth Below, which appeared between 1973 and ‘75.
“I love to play all those songs, but I also like to put in some new stuff as well. You’re on the edge a little bit more with stuff you haven’t been playing live and that gives it a little a bit of electricity as well. It means I’m singing more if I’m doing four of the new songs. I have to work quite hard to do it, but when you pull it off, it’s a sense of achievement.”
Joining Trower on the road are drummer Chris Taggart and bassist/vocalist Richard Watts, the same trio that toured the United States in 2014.
