Song Review: Robin Trower - “Bridge of Sighs” (Live, Sept. 3, 1975, 2026 Mix)
Robin Trower Live! is getting a makeover, presenting the complete concert from which the 1976 LP was culled.
The previously unreleased “Bridge of Sighs” from that Sept. 3, 1975, gig in Sweden announces the April 3 arrival of the 50th-anniversary release. And its grace and power only underlines the disbelief it wasn’t included on the original album.
A bit of hiss notwithstanding, this is a gift. Trower plays like a monster - again adding to the mystery of why he is not regularly mentioned among the 20th century’s greatest axemen. James Dewar sings like a madman - full of power and tonality while his bass locks in with Bill Lordan’s drums to give Trower the platform he needs to go wild in his understated way.
“We were just flying,” Trower says of that long-ago gig.
“Bridge of Sighs” suggests he’s not exaggerating.
