Hc that since Rich grew up in a (presumably) abusive household he just assumed that's how parents were and thought jake was lucky that his were gone and one time he told jake "man you are SO lucky your parents aren't around I'm so jealous" and jake got pissed and they got in a fight and that's how Rich found out not everyone's parents are hardcore alcoholic assholes and most people love their parents and that's how Jake learned how bad Rich's parents are bc like he vaguely mentioned "ugh my fucking dad" and jake just assumed they got in a fight and rich just assumed it wasn't something you opened up about because it was an average thing for people
