Everyone’s obsessed with Maverick
That lil clip of Rick Rossovich (Slider’s actor) talking about filming some scenes on an actual carrier where he’s all like “There’s 6000 men on this carrier, they’ve been at sea 180 days, they’re all a little tired…they just wanted access to Tom, but what can ya do? You can’t let them all get in your face.”
Cuts immediately to a behind the scenes of a guy walking with Tom Cruise (after apparently asking for his autograph) and the camera just follows along as they make their way through the carrier. Dudes are smiling and laughing as he passes. Another soldier goes, “Can’t get out of here without signing your name!” And the guy next to him immediately follows with “Or a kiss?”
And Tom replies, “Yeah? You’ve been on a cruise for too long!” as he walks by them and all these dudes are laughing/getting riled up…
Like, damn! Baby Tom was lowkey in danger, those real life Navy dudes were gonna tear him up for being the prettiest piece of ass they’ve seen in over 100 days at sea 😭😭😭
So of course, that gives me the idea that Maverick often faces similar type of harassment when he gets shipped out. Like, whenever people hear he’s gonna be there during their deployment, some dudes would be like “F*ck. We’re gonna be out at sea for 100+ days! Well, at least Maverick’s around so we’ll have something pretty to look at.”
Cue: excessive skinship and towel snapping in the showers/locker rooms, wolf whistles/cat calls while he’s walking through the corridors, low key deliberate shoulder checks in the hallways, people using him as an armrest since he’s so short lol. They’re blocking entry into the mess and demanding kisses as payment.
It starts off light heartedly enough until the days creep up, the frustration at being stuck on a mini city in the middle of the ocean with mainly other dudes builds, and the tight quarters and annoyance of being packed in like sardines eats away at you…
By then, Maverick and friends will have to hide him away from the public to keep him from being assaulted 😭
