Rickety Rocket
Produced by Ruby-Spears, Rickety Rocket was a recurring segment featured in The Plastic Man Comedy/Adventure Show, first airing in September of 1979. Set in the distant future, the story introduces four exceptional youngsters: Cosmo (voiced by Bobby F. Ellerby), Sunstroke (voiced by John Anthony Bailey), Venus (voiced by Dee Timberlake), and Splashdown (voiced by Johnny Brown). Together they use their ingenuity and knowhow to build from scratch a sentient talking rocket that they name ‘Rickety Rocket.’ (voiced by Al Fann).
Although Rickety is a highly sophisticated and capable construct, the parts used to build it were mostly salvaged. Hence the rocket’s makeshift (or ‘rickety’) appearance belies the true impressiveness of its capabilities.
Together with Rickety, the four teens create ‘The Far Out Detective Agency’ and solve mysteries that sees the gang going up against master criminals and super villains. They become renown crimefighters called upon to attend to the most important of cases throughout the city.
