A little illustration of @cepmurphy‘s AU writeup, What if Dredd bought it and Rico became top cop?
Chief Judge Rico vs Judge Death
And bored, paranoid, and - deep down - guilty about Joe, Rico gets worse and worse and many people have “accidents” in his new city.
It all comes to a head when Judge Death arrives. Psi-Division were corrupted or purged. Anderson, she got corrupted. Nobody can stop Death or his brothers or the acolytes he makes.
Rico goes completely off the deep end as it all slips through his grasp. Sector Zero make their move and butcher every psi they can find to stop the Sisters of Death coming over. That just about works.
A zzizzed-up, screaming Rico is steered into fighting Death - he loses.
Best of 2000 AD: Rico Dredd... #2000AD #RicoDredd #JudgeDredd
Rico getting down and dirty on the mega-city dance floor. If you’re gonna party, you might as well dress the part right?
this was mostly just an excuse to draw some silly MC1 clothing. Spiked elbowpads are in fashion in the spring season of 2080!
Forgot to share this earlier.
It started out as facial reconstruction because as far as comics seem to go, Joseph never takes his helmet off and Rico doesn't have a fucking nose by the time we see him in HD and then I just sorta... Cybernetics... I think I've been too into 40k lately to not. Plus they were fun to draw and render. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Also what the hell is with the tritone hair? Is it radiation fry? Is it dye of some kind? Is it the modeling program having a stroke? I don't know, but that was a bitch to get right (kinda fun tho) and I'm debating my sanity for following through on replicating it.
All in all, I'm proud of myself. This shit took like 4+ hours to get right. Despite artistic liberties being taken for the sake of shortcutting (read: don't zoom in too far on the forehead augments lol)
Actual drawing done with Gimp2.4; captions added with Ms Paint because I am LAZY and gimp takes a lot of resources to open back up when your canvas is 4800² pixels.
No clue what Mr Carroll used to make the model. Go ask him if ya like, he seems like he'd probably tell you.
Been reading the Judge Dredd prose novels and man, I have fallen in love with the Rico Dredd stories. The way Michael Carroll characterizes him and Titan is such a delight to me! Honestly do wish we got to see more of Rico and Joe interacting within the series as a whole, probably why I like when 2000AD decides to have a Regened issue, because my chances of seeing it go up significantly, even if they are just cadets
September 17
Rico first appeared in "The Return of Rico" in 2000 AD #30 (September 17, 1977). Rico Dredd (2066–2099) was the "clone brother" of Joseph Dredd, which is to say that they were both cloned from the same genetic source, in their case Chief Judge Fargo. Their growth in the cloning tanks was artificially accelerated, so that within 16 months they emerged with the physical development of children aged five years. They also had their brains electronically induced with knowledge and training which greatly surpassed their apparent physical age, so that they could immediately begin training in law enforcement. Rico was removed from the cloning tanks twelve minutes before Joe, and so he habitually referred to Joe as his little brother (or "Little Joe").

MEGA-CITY LAW: HE AIN’T HEAVY, HE’S MY BROTHER (COMPLETE CASE FILES VOLUME 1 – PROGS 29-30)
Prog 30 introduces a major element of the Dredd mythos (an element unfortunately adapted by the evil 1995 Judge Dredd movie, as opposed to the good 2012 Dredd movie) – Dredd’s (clone) brother, Rico.
Before we get there however, we’d better skim the intervening episode, prog 29. This involves an…
