1, 3, 20, 29, 30, 40!
sorry i’m just getting to these. i was kind of busy last night.
1: Currently Reading
For school: The Stranger by Albert Camus, The Road to Wigan Pier by George Orwell, The Anatomy of Fascism by Robert. O Paxton
For pleasure: The Likeness by Tana French, Valerie and Her Week of Wonders by Vitezslav Nezval
3: First book that had a major influence on you
There were a lot of picture books, specifically fairy tales, that were read to me as a child that had a big influence. Honestly, the books that I remember most clearly as being formative for me as a child were the Harry Potter books.
20: A character you like but you really, really shouldn’t.
Edward Rochester from Jane Eyre, full stop. I know that even in the most generous interpretations he’s a massive asshole, or at least enormously misguided, but I spent large part of my formative years being kind of in love with him, so yeah. I still don’t think he’s as evil as some people seem to think he is lol
29: Favorite female protagonist.
lol thinking about this, I’m realizing how few female protagonists there are and it’s depressing me. The one that comes immediately to mind is Cassandra Mortmain from I Capture the Castle. I also like Jane Eyre from Jane Eyre, Iris Chase from The Blind Assassin, and Clarice Starling from The Silence of the Lambs. There are probably more, but I can’t think of them.
30: One book everyone should read
I don’t really know? I feel hesitant giving an answer to this, but I feel like more people should read Paradise Lost. I read the whole thing for a paper last semester, and I thought it was a very rewarding as well as challenging experience. If you have the ability to read it, I think you should. It’s one of the few ~canon works that I truly love.
40: Has there ever been a book you wish you could un-read?
Honestly, no. I’ve read a lot of books that I’ve really disliked or even hated, but I feel like even those have something to contribute to your personal experience.
