As Madhavi made her way down to the ER to assist with incoming traumas, she quietly prayed for a second wind. They tended to be her only saving grace on an eighteen hour shifts, especially if the local MCs were cooking up some nonsense — which, tonight, they were. It didn't help that she was craving hot food. She could run out for some shitty pre-prepared taquitos from the convenience store around the block, but she'd been avoiding that place since she'd gotten back into town. It was where Keshav got his first job. She could still picture him behind the counter, big, dopey grin on his face, tossing her an expired Hostess cake like it was something she'd actually want.
Ignoring the dull hunger pangs in her stomach, she drew the curtain around the bed she'd been paged to, fixing its occupant with a cool, professional smile. "Hi, sorry for the wait, full house tonight." Setting down the chart, she snapped on a pair of rubber gloves. "My name is Dr. Nandamuri and I'll be overseeing your care."
