I place my trust in the universe's plan, I believe I've been placed here for a good reason. okay but can we talk about lee jihoon/woozi for a sec?

i’ve always admired him for working so hard and being so passionate for the music he creates/produces. he is undoubtedly one of the most creative (and not to mention talented) artists of the kpop industry this generation has to offer.

this snippet from Going Seventeen 2019 (EP 11) made me admire and respect him even more than i already do. the fact that he had to skip out on what was supposed to be a fun schedule to bond with his members, he opted to stay behind and work in their studio for their music. but we often forget that “lord composer woozi” is also a human person who gets tired. from the episode, he briefly talks about how tired (and we can probably guess that he’s also frustrated from the tone of his voice) he is when things don’t go his way when recording/producing. it’s a gentle reminder that he too, even as an idol, also has his moments of frailty. 

yet he doesn’t give up. he assures us that he and the rest of the members are doing their best to produce a “good album”.

at first i was a bit worried or apprehensive because i wondered if they were just doing these (i.e deliberately tiring themselves out) because of external pressures. probably from pledis? or the need to satisfy carats? but then as with good timing, MTV posted their interview with Seventeen post-KCON where Woozi (and Scoups) talked about their songwriting and their title as “self-producing idols”. while this has been asked time and time again that the question sometimes feels little repetitive, i still think that talking about their lives as artists is an interesting topic. anyway, woozi talked about story-telling through music and then clarifying that “it’s not about ego or the novelty of being a self-producing idol group within the k-pop landscape, at least not anymore”. he says that the creative process is part of them, that it is who they are now.

so, upon reading that i thought it was probably safe to assume that woozi (and the rest of the members) also find joy in songwriting, that they are not driven to do it because of the money and pressure from their company and audience, but because the 13 of them have individual stories to tell, and to share to whoever are willing to listen. i’d like to believe that their music comes from a place of love and passion.

it’s just really tough to see woozi frustrated. i hope he isn’t spreading himself too thin. i hope he (and the rest of the members) know that it is alright to feel tired and take the time to rest. that their health - physical, mental, and emotional - should take precedence over anything else. i hope that their company allows them to take day-offs so they could take care of themselves. and i hope that they all know that they are surrounded by people, like family, friends, and fans alike, that admire and support them.

i really hope that more people will recognize the talent they exude. i don’t necessarily think that stanning the group is of great importance - i just really wish people would take the time to give their songs a chance, and give seventeen the attention they deserve. they’ve all worked hard for it after all.
