❝ Mr Spock, I find your conclusion to be highly illogical. ❞

Jim was sitting on the edge of his bed, a PADD sitting in his lap. His golden shirt had been discarded on the floor, as had his boots and trousers. Bones had warned him that pulling double-shifts so early would be a bad idea, but Jim wanted to be tired when he was finished for the day. He was not eager to recount the events of the warp core, and so avoided thinking about it or even acknowledging it in any way. Thankfully most of the crew appeared to be humouring him, but whether it was because they had noticed how he skipped over the issue he didn't know.
"--all scans so far indicate no signs of life. Commander Spock, a science team and myself will beam down to the planet's surface tomorrow to collect samples. It could be a potential source of dilithium, so the Federation is eager to see how that goes," Jim sighed, pausing midway through his officer's log, "...on a more personal note, things seem to be running smoothly in the crew. I'd worried that the incident with Khan would've shaken a lot of them up, but if it has...you wouldn't be able to tell. Bones has been doing regular check-ups to the new transfers as well as those onboard when it happened. So far, he says there's nothing to worry about. That's it for today, anyway. Kirk, out."
Jim placed the PADD back on his desk and crawled into bed, ordering the lights off and closing his eyes. It felt almost as though everything was back to normal. He was off exploring deep space with his crew, just how it should be. If he didn't think too hard, he could pretend as though nothing had ever been wrong.

Jim Kirk's death was greatly downplayed. In fact, apart from the crew of the Enterprise and Starfleet Command, no one knew of it. The idea of releasing the information that he had been resurrected by a serum made of a superhuman war criminal wouldn't look good in the headlines. And so Jim recovered on the quiet, pretending as though he had not stared death in the face and lost. It wasn't easy. But if there was something he was good at, it was facing a challenge - and so to all those who were not his crew, the truth remained concealed. And he was somewhat thankful. While Bones insisted that he was still suffering from PTSD, the Admiralty were eager to get the 'face of Starfleet' and the flagship back into space again. While he didn't really like being their poster boy, he was aching to get back out among the stars. Deep space held its own mysterious, and Jim wanted to be the one who discovered them. Striding onto the bridge with a small smile to his crew, and a nod directed towards, Spock, Jim settled back into the Captain's chair as though he had never left. He was still...reluctant to accept his old role back, but somehow he knew it was were he was supposed to be. He tried to use his constant nightmares as a reminder of what happened when he failed, and to resolve to do better for his crew this time. No more mistakes. And he had proved again, that there was no such thing as a no-win scenario. Despite what Bones had said to him after he had awoken, Jim believed that saving the crew was a victory - and nothing could persuade him otherwise. "Mr Spock," he said over his shoulder, gesturing with a hand, "Come here a sec?"

1. Hot, Steamy Kiss
It happened all too quickly. He had spotted himself, or who he thought to be himself, amongst the quickly thinning crowd on the street, although he admittedly seemed taller and older. There was that hair, though. It was perhaps a bit more tidy than his own, but otherwise the resemblance was simply unmistakeable. Or perhaps he was simply intoxicated beyond belief. That was also quite the possibility and, in fact, it was quite true.
That didn’t matter, though. Nothing mattered except his sudden need to close the distance between he and his older counterpart. His older, pointy-eared counterpart, which became apparent as he drew closer. What on earth had he gone and done to his ears? Had he been bitten by a poisonous sidhe? A forest elf? And good lord, where had his glorious cheekbones go? He even had a funny blue shirt on with a funny blue symbol on it.
It still didn’t matter.
Because a sudden, drunken impulse came over him when he reached the man, gripping him by the shoulder and turning him around. ”I’ve always wanted to do this,” he murmured and before his tidy, tall, and elven self could properly react, Merlin was on him, pressing his lips firmly into his like there was nobody around to be modest for. There were people around, wandering by, stealing glances at the duo which seemed to suffer from wide-sided eagerness. Merlin did not care and by the second, the kiss grew more urgent. He edged the man back and back until there was nothing but wall.
