Today's read was Werewolf Bitten, Twice Shy by Riley Rivers and I must say, this was the perfect curl up in bed on a cold winter's day type of story! I instantly got attached to the MC, Cameron, a 22 year old college student who is homeless (lives in his car) and working at a warehouse to put himself through college. He has no family and was in group homes and foster care since age 8. He's incredibly self-sufficient, almost to a fault. (Think Neil "I'm fine" Josten meets Adam "I will die before I ask for help" Parrish)
Cameron's passion is photography and one day he meets Ezra, a famous food photographer, when he guest lectures in one of Cameron's classes. Cameron makes a good impression and Ezra asks him out to lunch to talk more about photography and answer his questions. Ezra offers Cameron a paid internship and Cameron immediately accepts. The internship is Cameron's golden ticket, providing him with priceless experience, double the salary he makes at his other job, free food, and quality time spent with Ezra. But no matter how much Cameron likes and respects Ezra, he won't open up about his struggles or being homeless.
Things change when Cameron is attacked by a wolf and all of his secrets are revealed. Ezra, always patient and caring, is there to take him in and help him, even when Cameron's situation turns dire.
This book gave me all the feels! I love characters like Cameron who are super guarded and don't want to ask for help, and I love soft, giving characters like Ezra who have so much love and care to offer. This story is a slow burn and super sweet. It's also a big age gap (about 20 years) but the author handles it well. Hurt/comfort is my fave trope and this book gave me so much, both emotional and physical! 😭🙏 Also, WEREWOLVES. Lots of lovely werewolf content.
A solid 4 stars! It's a fairly short read (150 pages) and tbh I wish it was longer!
A struggling college student…
A man determined to care for him…
And a run-in with a wolf that brings several things into focus.
Broke, exhausted, and homeless, Cameron Drake's only hope is to make it to tomorrow. At twenty-two, he’s a full-time college sophomore working third shift at a warehouse and only scraping by because he doesn’t pay rent. Living in his car isn't the easiest, but he makes it work.
Cameron lives and breathes photography, and all he wants to do is graduate and wield a camera for a living. When Ezra Green, a world-renowned photographer, offers Cameron a paid internship, Cameron can’t believe his luck. Ezra is kind, and a fantastic mentor, and it’s altogether too easy for Cameron to develop a crush on the handsome older man. Even though Ezra seems to care for him in turn, Cameron shoves his feelings down in favor of working harder. For once in his life, he gets to have something good. He doesn’t want to mess it up.
Naturally, his good luck is interrupted by a freak wolf attack.
Injured and without anywhere else to go, Cameron would rather die than burden Ezra. Will Ezra be able to convince Cameron that he isn’t a burden at all?
