Rinley Sosunov, a variant character I'm playing in @jennamoran‘s Glass-Maker's Dragon campaign for Chuubo's Marvelous Wish-Granting Engine! (The fact that fish swim through the air are Chuubo's fault.)
“So, why would they name a Titov after a famous Yatskaya?”
With arms crossed and a smirk on her face, Rinley said, “Because Rinley Yatskaya did the impossible, and I was born to do the impossible!”
“Weren’t you called up from the ground?”
“Technically yes.” She scrunches her face all up in mock indignation. “It was probably like pulling up a carrot or a turnip, or... buried treasure. I’m a delight, as my family keeps telling me.”
But there’s a reason she hasn’t seen them for two days now. She’ll come back tonight, because she can’t stay away for long. No one can, when you’re a Titov.
She wishes she was a Yatskaya.
As a ripoff of CaveFelix’s Excellent Rat Rinley - nah, I was planning on playing Rinley Titova in @metalfatigue‘s Glass Maker’s Dragon, and they’re letting me choose a more Titov-esque Arc than Spiritual, so here’s Rinley Titova on Called Away 3! She’s still on the same quests and arcs as regular Rinley.
She was called up to guard and imprison the thing beneath the shrine, but the Titovs didn’t expect to pull up a young girl nowhere near old enough to do any of those things. They did adopt her into their family, but there’s always a level of disdain and disappointment that she hasn’t quite fulfilled her role. And, of course, perhaps she was only called up so young so that she would be the right age when the thing under the shrine broke out...

Rinley was created to guard the thing trapped under the shrine, and so her life has been spent pulled towards that strange and surreal land of the Shrine Beneath. It’s a lot like the surreality of Bluebell Park, but with subtle differences in its Properties:
Emotions must have a tangible impact on the world.
People must honor customs and forms.
Events must repeat themselves until something transformative happens.
The sea must be tranquil.
Everyone has a role to play.
A terrible power sleeps here.
Being so attuned to this place, Rinley has found herself connected to the Estate of The Lies That Keep You Going, sometimes occasionally reworded as “The Lies That Make Life Worth Living”. They include such silly things like “mercy” or “belief” or “love”, and Rinley is positive that those kinds of things can be spread via stories and legends!
She is metaphysically tied to a shadowy being, who, of course, is Iolithae Septimian, the dread thing trapped under the shrine. Once, when they were sitting together and Iolithae was combing Rinley’s hair, the kind Deceiver said that Rinley was destined to go on grand adventures and do great deeds. But that was a while ago, and Rinley hasn’t been back since.
Rinley has a variety of powers due to her connection to The Shrine Beneath - she can call upon the edges of that world, flooding the place she is currently in with its properties. She can show up as a spirit whenever her name is spoken or whenever there’s a story to be told, and she’s extremely lucky at times. Locks and doors can’t keep her out, and sometimes they even spring open for her.
There are strange treasures buried beneath the earth that Rinley can call upon, and she can even mimic the Titov family magic by pulling up whoever or whatever she needs occasionally. She can shape the world of the Shrine Beneath, and sometimes she can shape people or items into a form more fitting of that world - usually as a bound but powerful being.
And she can bestow the touch of the Lies That Keep Us Going upon people, comforting them with the inspiration that can keep them, well, going. This usually bestows upon them an Issue of Vice, because even though it helps them in the moment, too much of a good thing can be... not a good thing.
This Rinley is... a troubled one, outwardly very similar to the funloving joke cracking troublemaking Yatskaya, but inwardly full of bitterness and passive agressiveness against her family. She loves them a lot and they love her too... but it’s a love fraught with tension and disappointment. Rinley would like to impress them, but right now she can’t do anything right so why even bother with boring things like duties?
