Reggie had intended to laugh, but all that came out was a long groan into his pillow. “I feel terrible.” He’d woken up and had taken a straight route to the bathroom, nearly tripping over Ben in the process. If he wasn’t feeling so awful, he’d be guilty and cradling his dog, apologizing for making him yelp earlier that morning.

But instead he’d made best friends with his toilet, tried to get ready for work and got familiar with his kitchen sink on the same level. So here he was now, buried under the thickest blanket he could find and with both dogs settled on top of him as some heavy and hot attempt at comfort.
