There is something wrong.

Shadow’s quills stand on edge before he even processes the spike of SOMETHING in the air. Something sharp. Familiar. Poisonous. The Ruby--it’s back. He feels it crackle in the air and send something--panic?--streaking down his spine.

It’s close by, is the second realization Shadow has. And he takes off, streaks of fire marring the ground black, using Chaos Control to warp and decrease his time. He moves swiftly, adrenaline throbbing in his chest. It can’t be back. It can’t be back, they’re destroyed, they’re gone, we won--

As he gets closer to the source his heart begins to swell with dread. The familiar hair-singing scent floods his nose. Shadow cringes but pushes onward. There’s no actual scent, per se, but he can feel the energy that it makes him cringe in such a way.

Ruby cubes begin to dot his field of vision as he closes in on whatever it is making things go haywire. Shadow’s stomach drops with sickening realization--I CAN’T GO BACK THERE--but he steels himself, swallows, and coils his hands into fists.

The person is not who he would expect. Zero. Spasming on the ground wildly, afraid, eyes wide, pattering in and out of existence. “You--” he chokes out, and drops into a defensive position, “You,” this time his voice is darker and more steady, ready to attack. I will purge this threat.
