A little blip in his full life of adventures, one of the coolest moments I ever got to enjoy: lunch with Anthony Bourdain in Little Armenia. What a conversation, what a storyteller. And man oh man, he had some roast jokes on Guy Fieri and Martha Stewart ... Just got to see the episode last week and then the terrible news today. I didn’t realize grownups had heroes but I guess sometimes we do. #RIPAnthonyBourdain

This tribute piece was difficult to do, I really feel like I knew the man, having read his books and watched many of his shows. Bourdain crossed cultures, socially and politically because he understood food united us and travel excited us and he unlocked the common thread in humanity by simply having a meal or drink with someone and articulated it unlike anyone else.

From China to Singapore via Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea (N&S), The Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Myanmar, India, Nepal or Bhutan (and that’s just Asia!) we always try the local food.

Food is an important part of a culture, it’s an expression of cultural identity.  So when you try the local food, you get to know a little bit more about its unique lifestyle, values, and beliefs… and even better try to enjoy it on cheap low plastic stools ;-)
