I’m a little late with this post as I had to dig up this old, not-so-great photo. This is from 2004 during the filming of George A. Romero’s Land of the Dead. Me and my best friend had a crummy office space in the now super-fancy Dineen Building on Temperance Street for our T-shirt company. The street was used for all sorts of movie and TV productions. In the background you can see the incomplete Bay-Adelaide Centre, which sat that way for over 10 years. A strange site in the downtown core. (You would’ve also seen these buildings in Brain Candy). Any way, I arrived at the office in the afternoon to get some work done. I knew the street was being used for a movie shoot that day, but there was no one around or on the street at that time, other than a security guard. Later on, after I had been working away on my computer for hours, paying no attention to the outside world, I heard a loud explosion, which freaked me out. I stuck my head out the window and saw this scene, about a hundred zombies zombie-walking towards me. For a split second it felt like it was real, that the zombie apocalypse was here. That was one of the coolest feelings. I guess I have George to thank for that. Sad to hear of his passing. George, who became a Torontonian (and Canadian citizen) later in his life, produced some of my favourite horror films. #ripgeorgearomero (at Dineen Building)
