Oz (1950-2014); civil name Walter Josef Fischer) was considered the "grandfather of the sprayer scene" in Hamburg. His works are omnipresent in the Hamburg city area, especially in the form of smileys, spirals and tags. He has left his mark more than 120,000 times in Hamburg. He was sentenced several times for his graffiti and served a total of more than eight years in prison for it. I've been inspired to explore graffiti in the cityscape after viewing the exhibition @einestadtwirdbunt at the Museum für Hamburgische Geschichte recently. Again, I highly recommend the exhibition, which traces the history of graffiti in Hamburg from 1980 to 1999. Also check out @city_of_oz.hamburg for further oz impressions and a great collaborative map documenting the locations of his work. #ozhamburg #ripoz #cityofoz #einestadtwirdbunt #eswb @histmuseenhh (at Billstedt, Hamburg, Germany) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cl3V2m6sQCJ/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
Hamburg
On 25th September 2019 it has been five years since Walter „OZ“ Fischer has passed away. With his tags, smileys, squiggles, dots or big and multicolored pieces he fought back the city’s ever extending grey and literally left his mark on the cityscape. OZ didn’t exclude any surface from his paintings and besides the huge amount of single artworks, his eye for the perfect spot and his individual style made him a truly unique artist.
When Emmett E. visited Hamburg in 2018 it was the main mission to document the last remains of OZ’ life’s work which disappears more and more due to crossings, buff or natural fading. The 320 paged book “Hamburg” gives a hint of the extent Walter Fischers work really had.
To the occasion of the 5th anniversary we will offer “Hamburg” for only 25,00 € instead of 35,00 € for the whole week (until 29th September, 23:59). Although the price is lower for that time, we still donate a part of the profit to projects which aim to preserve OZ’ work.

One of my faves!!!
CRUZ- “This all my fault!! My grandfather is dead, and it’s all my fault. He was trying to make contact with whoever was trying to contact us. Akira, I have killed him....”
AKIRA- “Cruz, you can not blame yourself, we told him to wait...what I don’t understand is why he brought Caia and how they both are dead!? I have a really bad feeling about all of this Cruz.”
CRUZ- “You think Gunther got through, somehow??!”
AKIRA- “I am not sure, but I can feel another life form’s presence that was here. I can also tell by looking at your grandfather’s body that there was some kind of electrical current that must have killed him, I can still feel the after effects....Oh my, now I know why he brought Caia...”
CRUZ- “What, what did you find???”
AKIRA- “Cruz, they were married last night....I found a marriage license and train tickets to Granite Falls in his pocket, they were planning on leaving for a honeymoon...I assume. She too was electrocuted. This wasn’t an accident, Cruz.”
