are you going to continue caught in the riptide soon I really enjoy it and I'm a bit disappointed that a new chapter hasn't come out in a while, but I hope you don't feel like I'm pressuring you.

No worries Anon! I’ve been meaning to address this anyway so here goes.

The problem with creating stories as prolifically as I do is that not all of them survive to adulthood, there’s just too many projects I’m involved in for them to all be completed, and the ones I’m not super excited about end up withering away. Of all the stories I’ve created/written/drawn there’s only been two so far that were struck from this Earth before they reached their natural end. Regrettably Riptide AU is one of them.

It’s a mix of personally losing interest and not being as invested in the fandom as a story that long would require. I say the story is “on indefinite hiatus” since I feel heartless officially euthanizing a storyline, no matter how much I don't want to write it, but honestly it’s just the equivalent of saying the family dog has gone to live on a butterfly farm while you were at school. I’m very grateful for everyone who loved it during its short time among us, it had a happy life while it lasted. 

So, let us all join in a moment of silence for Riptide AU, a storyline that deserved better in this life, but that fell victim to the cruel onward tread of life. Rest In Peace.

What happens to people with powers who don't want to be heroes? Has Super discrimination occurred due to the act?

Once the act comes into effects those who refuse to be registered will be subjected to fines and even arrest after repeated warnings or illegal Super activity (like the Incredibles). 

The registration act doesn’t force people to be Supers or to join the Taskforce, but it does allow the government to keep close tabs on them to monitor their behavior and make sure they complete a mandatory training course on Super skills if they want a licence for using their powers.

So essentially if you have powers you would be required to register with the government as soon as you discovered them (or have your parents register you), undergo physical checkups regularly throughout your life to monitor your abilities, and undergo basic superpower training for managing your powers in everyday life. 

If you wanted to actually use your powers in public then you would have to undergo a separate more rigorous training that would licence you based on your individual abilities. If you wanted to use them for crime fighting specifically you would have to join the Taskforce for that.

The goal of the registration program is actually to eliminate Super discrimination, if everyone is registered and regulated by the government then the general public wont have to be afraid of them anymore, meaning that they wont have to go underground ever again. 

Buuuuut if the record was made public that could certainly bring about some very interesting and complicated situations when neighbors find out the new family on the block has a daughter with mind control, or that the person applying to their new job opening has a habit of accidentally setting things on fire, or that the man running for mayor can tell what you’re thinking if he’s shaking your hand…

These are future opportunities for discrimination that Agent Gibbons hasn’t thought too much about, convinced that redeeming Supers as a whole and making them legal is worth the risks that individuals might have to deal with.

Hey, I know it’s been a long while since Caught in the Riptide has been updated but I’ve come to say that I absolutely love it! Even if it isn’t finished I am in love with the work and it’s concept! It amazing. Thanks for making it and following off of the art.

You are so sweet! And you are very welcome too. I’m glad you enjoy it, even if it will probably never be a finished work since my creative brain is a barrel of easily distracted cats that I have little to no control over.

CITR was definitely a fun project to dive into back when I started it (Pun definitely intended) and I was glad to give Tony some well deserved screentime, give Tony and Violet some good soft interactions, and put the world building actually in a 50’s feeling environment.
