PART 1
Okay guys! Here it is! I did my best to stay in line with cannon history, but I’m fuzzy on a few details, so anything I change, let's just call it a part of the au haha. This will be part one of I don’t know how many in total.
After attacking the Orphanage security, Raph gets sent to the cell for the night. (Rocko had just agitated the guards one too many times and finally was going to pay for it. He did get a scratch on the side of his face that is going to leave a scar, but I low-key forgot to draw it many of these, so sorry lol).
The boys spend their first night alone without Raph, and Raph gets crazy being isolated from them. The next morning, they reunite, but Raph is different. He has gone into complete anxious mode and doesn’t let the others leave his sight (including Donnie going to the library). Essentially, they stay in the TV room or bunk room every day (also, they don’t do their botatoes races anymore). This continues for about a week until one night, the orphanage is flooded with Yokai children due to shrinking in the hidden city. Security is swamped and has to decide what to do because they can’t host everyone. They decided all Yokai who looked “old enough” to be on their own would be kicked out that night. They take the oldest of each animal group, which turns out to be Raph. When security reaches for him, the others desperately cling to him. Dealing with enough problems, security takes all five of them and throws them onto the street, into the middle of a city they have never seen before.
Then the comic would cut to a backstory of how the turtles were created and why.
First off, I leaned into the loving side of Draxum for this story. There are so many cases when he is actually so caring of the things around him, I feel like he would be very attached to the turtles even before the mutation (and I’m a sucker for a good parental figure in media). So the whole experimentation thing started because Draxum really did see the problems of the Hidden City, the land shrinking by the day, Yokai fighting, failing governments, displaced families, and countless other things that Draxum could fix if he could get rid of the humans. That’s where he got the idea to create turtle soldiers. Together, they could defeat the humans and save the Hidden City.
Drax decides to create the turles using the DNA of Battle Nexus Star Lou Jitsu. Instead of taking him right away, he asks Big Mama for Lou Jitsu in exchange for more land/people to fight in her Nexus when they take over the human world. Big Mama agrees but states that she will only give Drax Lou Jitsu’s DNA instead of just handing him over. Drax reluctantly agrees but starts his project. He originally chose one turtle (the oldest) because that was all the serum had enough for. However, a big problem happened. There wasn’t enough DNA to mutate the turtle properly, and she came out deformed (weakened muscles and trouble breathing). Drax knew that he needed Lou to be present for the mutation to work properly, so he returned to Big Mama again. He brought the little turtle to show Big Mama the consequences of not having Lou Jitsu. Big Mama denied again, and Drax lashes out in frustration. Big Mama responds by calling her guards on him, and he flees before she can. In the chaos, the little turtle is dropped on the ground. Drax teleports away before he can realize. Big Mama takes the little one into her hands and names her Frida. Frida grows up with Big Mama and listens to her lies about Frida’s terrible creator, who saw her weakened state and decided that she wasn’t good enough to keep. Big Mama promises her that she loves Frida, and as long as she does what she says, she can keep that love and the purpose she has at Big Mama’s side.
Instead of teleporting back to his lab as Big Mama thought, Drax goes to the prison cells where Lou Jitsu is being kept. Before he goes on, though, he realizes that his little turtle, which he had secretly named Julia, was left behind in Big Mama’s office. Torn between going back for his beautiful creation or finding Lou Jitsu, Drax realizes that he will most likely not walk out again if he goes back for Julia, and getting Lou meant that he could save all Yokai kind. Filled with grief, Drax continued and chose Lou Jitsu.
The other 4 turtles he has back in his lab are significantly younger than Julia, so he holds Lou captive as he waits for the turtles to age a bit more. During this time, he grows deeply fond of them, giving them strawberries and snuggles and love.
Finally, the day comes for the mutation (also, Lou has just been chilling in a cell during this time, but Drax lets him watch TV and not fight, so better than Big Mama). After the mutation, something goes wrong (I can’t quite remember how it happens in the show), and an explosion happens. The mutagen, however, does not get on Lou Jitsu, and he is able to stay human.
In the show, you can see that Splinter clearly cares for his sons, but I think if he hadn’t been turned into a rat, he wouldn’t necessarily have an obligation or that foundation to care for them. However, he’s not just going to leave them in the burning building. So he runs away from Drax with the turtles in his arms (this is also where Mikey is accidentally dropped, and his leg is broken, without the proper medical attention, or in his case, no medical attention, his leg doesn’t heal properly even with the enhanced DNA leading him to put little to no pressure on his leg for the rest of his life). Lou sees a sign leading to an orphanage and drops them off on the doorstep and disappears into the night, ready to join the human world again and reclaim his popularity.
Meanwhile, back in the lab, Drax is distraught at the loss of his opportunity to achieve his goals, but even more so knowing that he had yet again let his creations be taken from him. While he focuses on rebuilding his lab, he has Huginn and Muninn search daily across the city for them for nearly five years. Big Mama is also keeping her eyes and ears open for her lost lover and to get revenge on Draxum.
Let me know what you think! Were you expecting any of that to happen? I can't tell if this comic is predictable or not.
