Guitarist Mary Spender tries out Beethoven’s daily routine. I learned a great deal from this video, not least the importance of waking up early and beginning creative work as soon as possible. Beethoven also took regular breaks, to help with his thinking. I went on a long walk today, which helped me work out the plot line for one of my stories. He spent time with friends, so that dispels the idea of a “lonely” creative. He read, and went to bed early, no later than 10pm. This discipline allowed him to keep producing and to recover from droughts caused by his depression. And the reason we know so much about his life is through his journalling (as well as letters and conversation books). Great work!
