Tip for sleeping in the heat with no A/C: ice pack wrapped in a hand towel by your feet. Makes a huge difference!
unfortunately a big part of the problem is that my body seems to be...not great at temperature regulation in general? I guess cooling off while you sleep is normal, but it also means I go to sleep with just a sheet because I’m hot, wake up a little chilled, get up and turn off the fan, wake up a little more chilled, pull a blanket on, wake up overheated, pull off a blanket, etc. between all of that and the neck pain that often makes it hard to get to sleep and stay asleep, my sleep is even more broken than usual.
I realize it's a little late (by my time anyway), but HAPPY BIRTHDAAAAAAAAY!!! <3
that’s the one good thing about me living in Alaska--too late for normal time zones isn’t too late here :D
Happy birthday to me, the reigning Queen of Owls and Kiwis

I mean, if you're upset, you're upset. That's a real feeling and it's okay to feel that - it's not illegitimate, ever. Maybe try examining *why* you feel upset - content? Person saying/posting/expressing it? Timing? Sometimes this helps me anyway. <3
It’s all just sort of related to my aro-ness and tbh I already feel guilty/bad in some way about it pretty much constantly so I’m probably just taking things too personally. It wasn’t actually directed at anybody and I’m sure it wasn’t intended to hurt anyone it’s just, this is something most people don’t normally think about. Thanks though, I appreciate it <3
earl grey, peppermint, green tea
Earl Grey: Mid-steep, ~tsp of sugar, lemon if available - sometimes switch out the sugar for honey, depending on blend and type of honey. Except darjeeling, darjeeling is sugar cube + splash of milk, or bailey’s.
Peppermint: Christmas because presents. So here for presents. I realize this makes me 5.
Green: in water, or near water. In pools, in oceans, in the bath, at a beach, listening to rain, smelling petrichor or salty air

Ouch :/. But - why do you even have to say how old it really is?
Because I never should’ve waited this long in the first place and I have to remind myself somehow to stop putting it off even though mattress shopping sucks?

maybe your chiropractor has some suggestions for shopping?
Not really. @muppetymels linked me to The Mattress Nerd, which has a lot of good info, but the main thing is that finding the right mattress is really subjective, and the right support/comfort varies a lot from person to person.

solid memory foam mattresses are the best. Just say no to springs!

Oof. I was sleeping up until last year on the same mattress I had since I was 5. It rattled and frickin’ jingled from all the busted springs every time I rolled over. :-/
lizardbeths replied to your post “which sounds worse, saying that my mattress is 20+ years old or that...”
to be all Mom-friend for a moment, a mattress that old is prob more dust mite than foam at this point. So not only is it not supporting you, it's pumping out allergens/dust.
Also that. I don’t have any respiratory allergies that I know of, but it’s definitely not helping my existing back/neck problems. Which, it turns out, is part of the problem with just shopping for a mattress, at least for me--at this point I apparently have more or less chronic neck pain because nothing seems to consistently help, so the whole hour or so I spent lying on different mattresses, I kept wondering if, you know, the neck pain was just what was already there or if the mattress was making it worse, or if hoping the mattress would help was unrealistic. Plus I tried like 10-15 mattresses of varying types and qualities for several minutes each and I still have no idea what my body actually needs, because each time my reaction was pretty much “this is okay I guess but I have no idea if this is actually more or less comfortable/supportive than the last one??” And of course it didn’t help that I was already in pain and getting progressively hungrier and more tired, and eventually I started getting depressed about how I’m probably always going to deal with neck pain and trouble sleeping.
So, uh, in my considered opinion, mattress shopping sucks and I’m not much closer to figuring out what I need than I was earlier today.
