"this is my first time and it's...intense." ↳ashton holmes as ephraim in supernatural s9e6: heaven can't wait
SPN angel headcanon:
Rit Zien weren't just used to put the suffering angels out of their misery, but to train them to be emotionless during various field tests.
Their ability to sense physical and emotional pain would make them Heaven's most efficient tattle-tales.
I got curious with Smolnatural but especially with Lucifer explaining about why fledglings existed once, the leviathan and that thing about being more than 4 archangels. Can you expand on that?
Sure thing!
So... despite I love the idea of Smolnatural being a universe where things are for the better, fluffy and cute...
There is a very dark beginning to things (Just me making the worst out of Chuck and just filling in certain gaps), back when the Darkness was locked away and Lucifer wasn't corrupted by the Mark yet, God was creating Earth, more angels, different creatures and also fledglings.
the Rit Zien concept could actually have been the most horrifying one in the show.... you are suffering and you are making your suffering your own, wrapping it up inside yourself, but it’s still so loud to them they find you from miles away, wishing to help you like you’re crying out for, and the only result is death surrounding you, that you wrought in their path, because your own distress, completely out of your own control, is still dangerous.
Raphael + the Rit Zien?
My computer ran off of batery in the middle of this :,]
I headcanon that the Rit Zien were Raphael’s appretinces, he was the one to train and take care of them. When god told Raphael there would be more angels interested in healing and preserving the creation Raphael was just so happy, not that the other archangels weren’t into preserving life, but they always took more interest in fighting than healing.
It also pains Raphael that whenever they have to “put someone down” due fatal wounds, he understands that it is one of the problems of the job but doesn’t wish that situation for anyone.
In general, the Rit Zien respect and look up to Raphael, while he loves and guides all of them. Or he used to.
I know it was supposed to be that the Rit Zien being *on earth* and feeling *emotional pain* was what sent them "haywire," but underneath that ...
... I can't shake the niggling feeling that we HAVE seen emotional, sometimes emotionally volatile angels in Heaven over and over and over. And like.
Why would Rit Zien's medical MO change in Heaven, right? It wouldn't.
The implication is that angels *had* to be emotionless, *had* to be heartless... literally had to deaden emotional pain and dissociate... or they'd be killed. By the "hands of mercy."
