eat up revali lovers, i blacked out and suddenly this was in my docs
You'd seen him fly so many times. Many, many times before— from the Flight Range to Rito Village, jumping from Vah Medoh's dizzying heights and commanding the winds to flow behind him, to aid him. He often had a smirk on his face, knowing that those below him were watching— especially when he'd use his Gale to soar up and away, leaving behind an afterflow that tousled hair and clothes alike. You'd often let out an exasperated sigh as you watched him flying, the superflous motions in it clearly for the audience he knew he had. As he'd said to you before, he'd made it an art to fly, and though you hated to admit it, he was right— there was no one else in the Village, no one else in Hyrule who could complete the the stomach-dropping flight patterns that he did. And though you'd tried not to (knowing it would only inflate his already insufferable ego more), you often found yourself pausing, stopping and watching those brilliant blue feathers trace patterns across the sky, feeling a comfort settle in you. There was safety in seeing him in the sky, reassurance that no matter what, he wouldn't let anything happen to the Village, the Rito, or you.
And that was why you could never get tired of seeing him fly— Revali, the pride of the Rito. The Champion of the Rito.
But this time was different.
This time felt different.
The monster horde that had sprung forward, chasing you through the snowy landscape stood no chance, their bodies flying as arrows rained down on them, exploding. You'd fallen to the ground, the snow fluffing up and around you. Your eyes were shielded, head buried in your arms, but it was hard to miss the unmistakeable blow of air that surrounded you, the dying squeals of the Bokoblins filling the afternoon air. Hesitantly, you peeked over your arm, the relief washing through your system at the familiar royal blue feathers before you and calming your racing heart. The Great Eagle Bow was brandished, arrows loaded and fired at breakneck speeds. The twang of the bowstring puncture the air as his wings pulled at it, reloading arrow after arrow.
There was no embellishment added to his flying, no extra dips and curves. He sped through a duo of Moblins, narrowly missing the bite of their blades. You felt your heart drop as his body snapped above their heads, and with two well-placed arrows, they were down, their bodies disintegrating before they'd touched the snow. From your vantage point, you could see his eyes narrowed, his focus sharper than you'd ever seen it.
Another group of Bokoblins tried sneaking up on him, but he'd shot off into the air, spinning with the torrent of wind that supported him. The bomb arrows scattered them, their grunts piercing the air as they died. Then he was off once more, clearing another group of monsters before they could even lift their crude weapons.
You'd stayed where you were, no wanting to move from fear of getting caught in the battle. But the sounds of snarls behind you had your body freezing fast. Slowly, you turned your head, spying three Ice Lizalfos behind you, their weapons raised and their eyes tracking your movements. One moved forward, claw raised as it primed to attack, and you scrambled in the snow and trying to get away— but your escape routes had all been blocked, the hopping feet of the monsters keeping you contained in your small circle. You hadn't meant to scream, but you did, your voice echoing into the crisp air. Then you curled into a ball, your head on your knees and hoping the attack wouldn't be too painful.
Then you'd felt it— that same wind, that comforting wind surrounding you, pulling and tearing at your hair and clothes. The lizalfos were trapped in it with you, but their eyes tracked something flying in it. Yours were fast enough to make out the blurred shape that sped around you, but you knew— you saw the after image of those blue feathers.
The Ice Lizalfos tried to stay stable, but the pull of the tornado surrounding you was too much. Their bodies flew into the air, their surprised yelps ripped from their bodies as they disappeared. The cyclone flew high into the sky, and you could see the shadowed shapes of the monsters thrown into the ground. Arrows sliced through the veil of air, tearing into the monsters surrounding you, and the cyclone dissipated, leaving Revali the only thing remaining. He hovered in the air slightly, before landing on the ground in front of you. His chest was heaving, his green eyes scanning your body quickly. His feathers were raised slightly, and you could see them start to settle bit by bit as he finished his assessment of you.
You hadn't realized you were trembling, the breaths leaving you mouth curling into the now quiet air.
"You seem fine." He'd finally said, shattering the silence that had been sitting between the two of you. "You should be grateful that you weren't injured— what in the name of Hylia possessed you to come all the way out here anyway? These aren't easy mountain to navigate, you know."
It took you a minute to speak, the adrenaline still swamping your body. "I-I… I wanted some flowers for a new dye. I didn't think there'd be a monster horde this deep…"
You could hear him scoff, turning his back to you. You'd expected him to take off, possibly report the slain monsters to the Rito Guard's captain. But he didn't— he knelt in front of you.
You blinked, not moving. Revali clicked his beak. "What are you waiting for? Get on."
"What?" you were still staring, still waiting on the ground. "What do you mean?"
"Must I spell it out for you?" he rolled his eyes. "It is far quicker to carry you on my back than to watch your trembling little body try to make its way back to nearest stable or, Godess forbid, the Village. I do have other important things to do!"
"But… But you said you don't carry people on your back," you'd lamely added, thinking back to the numerous excuses he'd given you.
"I am making an exception just this once." he responded, turning away again. You weren't sure, but it looked as if his cheeks feathers were rising. "So hurry it up, and be grateful."
Slowly, you stood, wobbling a bit. He stayed where he was, and carefully, you climbed on, wrapping your arms around his shoulders. The snow had made your clothes wet, and you'd been nonstop shivering. But Revali radiated heat, and subconsciously, you snuggled closer. He stood, and picked up the Great Eagle Bow with one talon. He turned his head back to look at you, and you stared into his eyes.
You'd never noticed the gold that was in them, having never been this close to him before.
"Hold on."
That was the only warning you were given as he sudenly rose into the air, the ground dropping below you. You tightened your hold, your eyes squeezing shut. Then, you'd felt him stabilize, your stomach parallel to the ground. You popped one eye open, then quickly opened the other at the view you'd been given.
You could see everything from here— Rito Village, its towering spire of rock like a beacon; the harsh and jagged Hebra Mountains, cutting the snowy and chilly landscape into two; the flat lands of Tabantha Tundra, the sparse trees dotting the fields in small clumps. You could even see Hyrule Castle, standing proud in centermost part of the kingdom, and beyond that, Deuling Peaks, leading into the westernmost part of Hyrule. You tried to take it all in, tried to burn the memory into your mind, knowing you never wanted to forget what you were seeing.
Revali had been taking arather slow flight back to Rito Village, his wings pushing the two of you through the air. You looked at him, then back out to the expansive lands before you.
"Do you always see the world like this?" you'd asked him quietly. He looked to you, then out to the world below him.
"I suppose I do." he said, pumping his wings through the sky.
"It's beautiful." you couldn't help the small smile that blossomed on your face. "It's really beautiful."
The silence descended on the two of you like the softly falling snow surrounding you. You were content to continue watching as the mountains and fields passed below you, but, your ears picked up on his voice, quietly floating in the wind that surrounded you.
"Yes… very beautiful."
You said nothing, but appreciated his comment nonetheless. Though he acted as if he were allergis to emotions, you knew there was moer to him than that. He was more a bird of actions rather than words, and you'd been visiting Rito Village enough to be able to tell when he was being genuine over performative. Him rescuing you was one of them.
"How did you even find me anyway?"
"That's a trade secret." he chuckled, his head tilting back to see the annoyed look on your face.
Your cheeks puffed out, but you didn't press it further. No matter how many times you asked, he wouldn't reveal how and why he was able to keep track of you. For now, you'd assumed it was through Vah Medoh, but the how escaped you. You supposed you would never figure it out, not even when the stubborn bird was on his deathbed. But, you had to be honest— without it, you might have been dead. So you would let him keep his secret for now, and be grateful he'd done so.
"… Thank you for saving me."
"You don't have to thank me." his voice was softer now, holding none of that usual pride he carried with him. "I already told you, you're my responsibility while you're here as my guest. It would be in poor taste to let you perish under my watch."
"Right." you'd rolled your eyes at the roundabout way he responded.
But it didn't override the safety that softly blanketed you as he flew. Because that was what he was— safety. Everyone else looked at him as a hero, their greatest warrior. As a Champion. You knew how the other Villagers talked about him. There was a wall between him and them. He wasn't just another Rito, he was Revali, their Champion and their pride. There was always awe, and reverence in their eyes as they talked about him. There was inspiration for the younger Rito, a hope to become like him, to learn archery and become a great warrior as he had done. And the other Warriors tried their best, but the notes of jealousy and envy that colored their voices as they talked about him yet again completing another mission for the princess of Hyrule showed through, and it showed through often.
But for you, it wasn't only amazement at his skill, it wasn't simply marvelling at his brilliance in creating an unheard of aerial move, of seamlessly blending aerial archery with that of Hylian-styled archery. It was comfort, in knowing he'd worked his hardest to become the best. It was safety, in seeing Revali soar. And that was what you'd loved about him— the freedom that seemed to follow him whenever he glided through the skies. The confidence that kept him airborne, the assurance in every flap of his wings.
Revali wasn't just the Rito Champion. He was their protector. He was your protector.
And you knew he would do anything to keep you safe.
I've got a request, there's only a few revali x readers and I was wondering if you could do like fem reader, she looks like a Hylian but she has wings- i feel like that would be interesting, like she stumbles across the flight range on accident. And nearly gets hurt, this reader persona is really sassy and easily snaps back, thats about it peace ✌️
Revali x hylian!reader with wings
The day promised to be good. You gathered all the things you needed, not much, considering that you will fly with bag on your own, and headed out.
The plan was to get to the rito village to buy some treatment for your wings. In all Hyrule only these guys know how to actually take care of feathers and overused muscles of your back, so you didn't have much choice.
But somewhere along the way wind changed direction and speed, before you knew it, it was nearly impossible to control your direction. You got into some airflow and were being turned sharply every few seconds, resulting in being unable to land. Thankfully, the Rito territory was close enough by that time. Though, it didn't help with guessing directions.
To your dismay, wind threw you exactly into their training grounds. You knew territory and soon were able to straighten your course. Not fast enough though.
An arrow flew past you, barely catching your cheek. Sheer luck, few sentiments to the side and you would have lost an eye. Who the hell was shooting at you? You thought it was a monster till you focused on blue rito that was landing with a bow in his paws. What a prick! The reason for small cut on your cheek already waited for you on the ground when you landed.
"Watch where you fly!" - Rito screamed at you. If you weren't pissed, you would have noted that he is quite handsome. But at that moment he was nothing but annoying peacock that nearly left you without an eye.
"Watch where you shoot! Or are you blind!? I wasn't even close to the target!" - you screamed back and touched cut on your cheek. Red painted your fingers.
Rito bristles at your tone.
"First, you were just before the moving one! Second, do you even know who you are talking to??"
"Clearly a rito that can't handle a bow and shoots at people without reason."
He let our a scandalized ghasp.
"I am Revali! Rito Champion! Show some respect. What even are you? Some half-breed? Or is it something hylians came up with to get close to the greatness of my people?" - Revali spoke arrogantly as his eyes traced your form. He could't deny that it was intriguing to see someone like you though. You are quite beautiful for a hylian, or whatever you have going on with those things of yours.
You frown at his words and meet his gaze with a glare once he raises eyes to look at your face. Green irises are glowing under sun and the tentative stare makes your face heat up. But you won't give the satisfaction to the jerk.
"As if. I was born like that. Not everything in the world circles around you and your ego. Though, with how big it is, it could easily replace sun if it was glowing." - you snap and he frowns. If Rito could become red in the face from anger or embarrassment, it would have happened now. You watch his eye twitch.
"You are awfully sassy for someone who can't fly straight because of some wind"
"And you are awfully proud for someone that looks like peacock"
You both narrow eyes at each other and start a staring contest, both aren't ready to give up and give satisfaction of victory to the other. After few minutes of tense silence he straightens with a scoff and holds wing out
> ritos have such a way with showing affection, it rivals that of even the sweetest couples
> most traditions sort of just faded into to the past like male ritos dancing or flaunting around females to get their attention; other traditions consist of females singing to attract the attention of the male ritos
>as times carried on, they simply took things into more private or less...embarrassing matters so to speak
> for starters, the now common stereotype is the male rito show their worth for their s/o, like having the status of being a warrior, or approaching their s/o with gifts to show their affections, like little shiny trinkets or clothes
> i feel like a common acknowledgement in most people’s eyes are in their feathers. not only are they soft but they hold true meaning as rito are of all different colors. having possession of said feathers is like a promise of loyalty and is basically the rito way of asking someone out.
> to add onto the feather concept, the other partner (the one being courted) puts the feathers somewhere to symbolize the acceptance of partnership
>typically, feathers are made into accessories to decorate themselves with this honor.
No matter how much time you spent at Rito Village, you’d never get used to the cold. Another blast of wind rushed through your clothes, biting your skin as it went.
You shivered, clenching your flimsy coat closer to yourself in the hopes to capture even a little bit of warmth.
“And what’s this? A Champion of Hyrule can’t stand a little cold?” A mocking voice laughed, an even stronger flush of wind surrounding you as the speaker landed from his flight.
“S-Shut up, R-Revali.” You grated out between clenched teeth, barely able to move as the Rito made his way towards you.
His brilliant eyes studied you, jade and striking compared to the bland colors of the village.
“Stupid Hylians, always causing problems.” He dramatically sighed, although you didn’t miss the way he directed himself into the wind’s way, guarding you against the cold.
“Why don’t we p-practice somewhere warmer?” Your whole body was shaking violently now, snow pouring down into your hair. “H-How about Mipha’s palace?”
“The whole point of us meeting here was to practice with the wind!” He exclaimed, throwing his wings out, shaking his head. “You’re going to have to get used to the cold if-“
He suddenly cut himself off, clacking his beak to a shut. You stared at him with confusion, your scrutinizing gaze turning his head away from yours, almost as if he were embarrassed.
“Revy, is there s-something you’re not telling me?”
His feathers bristled at the nickname, his eyes growing wide with something akin to shock. “My name is Revali, Hylian. Revali!”
“And m-my name’s not Hylian!” You shouted back, crossing your arms in anger. “I should have just spent the day with Link.”
Revali felt a cold chill grip his stomach when you said that. He had known you for only a few short months, but there was something about you which drew him to you.
The way your mouth pulled back to reveal your strange teeth in what you called a “smile”, the way your skin flushed under the cold, how you loved to argue back with him...he couldn’t say it out loud but he had fallen for a Hylian.
And he’d be damned if he let that bastard Link steal HIS Hylian.
Revali’s wings suddenly wrapped around you, pulling you into his chest, smothering you with his feathers like you were a newborn chick. You gave a small gasp in surprise, before his chest began to vibrate pleasantly along with his words.
“I’m sorry. Just don’t leave me.” He whispered, before resting his beak on top of your head, shielding you from the cold.
Your heart was beating unbelievably fast within your chest, the warmth of his body instantly chasing the cold away.
Carefully, you wrapped your arms around his torso, relishing in how soft his feathers were against your skin. You buried your face into his chest, smiling to yourself as you mentally compared him to a stuffed-animal.
“I won’t.”
He gave a soft trill of what you could only assume to be elation. “Good. That’s...good.”
You looked up into his face, and were filled with affection at the fire which flared within his snake-like irises.
“Revali…” You murmured, gently skimming your hand up his neck, stopping at his cheek as if he would suddenly bolt. You weren’t sure what you were planning on doing, but you knew you wanted to do something.
Without another thought, you wrapped your arms around his neck and pulled him in for a kiss, pressing your lips to the end of his beak, forcing your body against his.
The Rito tensed, blinking confusedly, somewhat frightened by your sudden movements. He was frozen in place, as if he didn’t know if was allowed to do anything else.
You pulled your face away, shame creeping into your features. From his reaction you could safely assume he did not enjoy that.
“Was that some sort of Hylian sign for affection?” He eventually asked, awkwardly stiff beneath your arms, talking as slow as he possibly could, as if he were walking through a proverbial landmine.
You gave a short laugh, releasing him in intense embarrassment. “Y-Yeah. Sorry, I shouldn’t have assumed Rito kissed.”
The instant you finished your sentence Revali’s feathers puffed, the tips of his wings splaying out in the most aggressive display of shock you had ever seen, his claws stumbling back. “Th-That was a kiss?!”
Revali wasn’t a fool, he knew what kissing was. Every other species besides the Rito did it, after all. But he had never witnessed one himself, or ever imagined what it would like on a Rito.
“Y-Yeah?” You stammered, unsure of how you should behave around his strange body language. You’d seen him ruffled before, but never to this extent.
Was he offended?
The longer you stayed away from him the colder you began to feel, a shiver crawling back up your spine.
“I really am sorry, Revali. I’ll give you some time.” You barely managed to say as your throat began to close, tears blurring your eyesight. “W-We don’t have to speak again, if you don’t want to.”
You started rushing down the wooden stairs which wrapped around the Rito’s mountain like a cobra, feet pounding in tandem. You heard Revali give a slight shout, but you ignored it. This was by far the most embarrassing thing you’d ever done, and to your friend as well.
As soon as you reached the end of the village you wasted no time in racing towards your horse, who patiently waited outside the village gate, happily munching grass.
Before you could reach the reins, a blue bullet raced towards you, splitting the sky with it’s incredible speed like a bolt of lightning.
Revali’s wings burst open just before he crashed into the dirt, the giant gust of wind blowing you into the ground and spooking your horse, nearly trampling you.
“(Y/N)!” You heard Revali shout, voice full of fear as he called your name for the first time.
You pushed yourself off the grass before he could reach you, brushing dirt off your clothes as you hurried after your steed, praying he didn’t see your face. Revali chased after your heels, releasing strange whistles from his beak, deep and slow, as if he were trying to console you.
“Stop! I need to talk to you.” He growled out with some frustration, the confusing whistles continuing, growing even louder as he neared you. “Stop acting so stupid!”
“Just go away, Revali!” You shouted, roughly wiping your face, pushing him back as he tried to come closer. “I’ve never been so embarrassed in my life!”
Revali suddenly stopped in his tracks, finally going completely quiet. You stopped running from him, sensing the seriousness of his silence.
He stared at your face for a moment, as if he were deciding something, before he began to flap his wings in a circular motion, forcing gusts of wind against you.
You stared at him with great confusion, taking a somewhat frightened step back. He began pointing his beak in the air, alternating angles to better flash his neck feathers.
For the grand finale he dug his claws into the dirt, drawing three straight lines towards himself, fully splaying his wings into the air as he took a slight bow towards his extended foot.
He looked up at you expectantly, amusement dancing in his eyes from your clear uncertainty.
“Do you have any idea what I just did?” He asked with a loud laugh, quickly covering his scratch marks with dirt.
“I-I’m sorry. Was it a “I forgive you” dance?”
“An I forgive- Look Hylian, I’m trying to make a point here.” He stated, ruffling his feathers as he looked away from you, slightly awkward. “An extremely embarrassing point, I might add.”
You took a careful step toward him, face flushed just the way he liked. “What kind of point?”
“The point that we obviously like each other a lot but come from two entirely different species so our customs do not always match up.” He stared straight at you, wrapping his wings around you for both your benefit and his own. “But that doesn’t mean we like each other any less.”
You smiled, just like he’d hoped you would, cupping your small hands around his face again, holding him the way only a Hylian could. “No, it doesn’t.”
Before you could move he plucked a single, long, blue feather from his wing, burying it behind your ear as he nuzzled his neck against yours.
“That’s a Rito kiss.” He murmured, a soft humm vibrating from his chest, almost like purring.
You touched the feather softly, deeply touched by his actions. You wanted to return the favor.
You brushed your hands through his silk feathers, scratching him pleasantly with your nails. “And this is a real Hylian kiss.”
You grabbed one of his braids, tugging slightly before he opened his beak, instantly moving your mouth to his.
Gently, you latched onto his giant tongue, sucking and releasing the tip with a loud “Pop!”, greatly enjoying the wet smoothness in your mouth.
He would have asked if you were trying to eat him if it hadn’t felt so good.
You pressed your face further into his beak, taking in even more of his fat tongue as you went. His eyes fluttered shut, body almost faint at the intense pleasures you were providing him.
You pulled away before it could get too intense, releasing him as you went, causing him to stumble in a daze after you. His yellow brow-feathers raised in shock, his eyes glazed over as he stood before you, tongue tied.
“I guess you enjoyed that?” You giggled.
He snapped his beak shut, clearing his throat as he swung his wings nonchalantly. “It was alright, I suppose.”
Your heart swelled for him, and you touched his “Rito’s Kiss” again, proud to have his love.
He glanced over at you, and you could tell he was thinking just the same.
