"DREDGEMEN'S STRIKE OFF AFTER 60 DAYS," Brantford Expositor. July 26, 1934. Page 8. --- AMHERSTBURG, July 26. - (CP) - Settlement of the strike of dredgemen has been reached and work in the Livingstone Channel improvement in lower Detroit River has been resumed. The work was practically suspended for nearly two months.
Crews of steam tugs are still out but Diesel engined tugs are being used to attend the big dredges. After nearly a year of work the lower Cofferdam section has been pump-ed dry and excavation work is starting at once.
The dredgemen struck for longer hours of work and are now on three eight-hour shifts daily which gives them the increase in pay they sought.
