I am a huge fan of Davy Crockett and the river pirates. I never experience this ride. I bring it up because as Rivers of America slowly goes away. I will miss the unload and load spot for this extinct attraction. Used as a over flow que to the Haunted Mansion. Most people do not even notice this area.

You can find a Keel Boat parked outside of Wilson’s Cave Inn. While on a trip around the Rivers of America . I will miss this spot as well. I also wanted to take a nap in that cave.

PIRATE ARRESTED FOR DEALING DRUGS

Elsberry, MO-LCPD Drug Task Force began an investigation into the drug distribution activities of Rob "Red Beard" McCue near the Timberlake Marina on the Mississippi River.

The investigation revealed McCue believed he was a pirate and dressed as one daily. McCue lived on a pontoon boat he decorated to look like a pirate ship.

LCPD conducted several undercover buys from McCue. McCue required all purchasers to say "Ahoy matey. I've come to purchase ye party favors."

During the arrest of McCue he begged investigators to let him "Walk ye plank" as punishment for his actions.

LCPD seized a modified shotgun, Marijuana (an illegal opiate), and pills.

McCue is being held at the LCPD jail. All subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in the court of law.

James Ford

(1770?-1833) was an American civic leader and business owner in western Kentucky and southern Illinois the turn of the 19th century. Despite his clean public image, as a "Pillar of the Community", he was also, secretly, a river pirate and the leader of a gang that would come to be known as "Ford's Ferry Gang". His gang was the river equivalent of highway robbers; they would hijack flatboats and Ford's "own river ferry" for tradable goods from local farms coming down the Ohio River. At one point, they used the "Cave-in-Rock" as their headquarters, on the Illinois of the lower Ohio River, which is about 85 miles below Evansville, Indiana.

In the late 1790's and through the 1800's, this cave was a combination tavern, gambling den, brothel, and criminal refuge.  Various river pirates and criminal types used the cave as a base from which to lure in gullible river travelers with the purpose of robbing them.
