This summer I have been the pride of my community in North Georgia for having learned the family corn liquor recipe and trade. I am the 6th generation to do so. I have one jar stowed away not to be opened until my children are of age to learn.

We are in the time of year where people are flocking to waterfalls to swim or lay out in the water because we have these places within reach.

There may not be big exciting happy news in Appalachia, but on a much smaller scale we still have our little joys.

i'm actually fucking obsessed with this. to me, this IS "big, exciting happy news" in appalachia. those are inherent pieces of our culture, everything you just said. preserving it, teaching it to younger generations and getting the love out there for every beautiful natural thing appalachia has to offer is bigger than anything to me. it's what we got to do when the rest of the nation wants to rip these parts of us away.
