"LEONARDO, MICHELANGELO!" An eleven year old Y/N Robins called from her porch door, impatiently tapping a food bowl against the wooden frame she leant against. Behind her, the sun was setting and painted the sky a gorgeous array of pinks and oranges, sweeping together like watercolours. She looked out on the street impatiently, finding its sleeping state both calming and unnerving. Elm Street was never noisy, but after three years of living there, the girl had realised it wasn't a place of silence either.
And she was completely right. A distant, yet soft, meow grew ever closer, finally appearing around the side of a bush. Y/N grinned, affectionately calling out for the birman to go find his dinner, "C'mere Angelo, that's it boy!"
He trotted past her up into the house where his found his dinner waiting.
"Leo!" Her small voice called out as loud as it could into the cool evening air. He had wandered off earlier that same day to enjoy the Riverdale summer heat elsewhere, and the Robins family didn't think anything of it. Just as her mouth opened to call out the name again, Vegas came barrelling out from the door of the Andrews household, across the street to her side with Mary and Archie following.
The Andrews matriarch noticed the empty food bowl, "Is everything alright, Y/N/N?" She asked in her usual professional voice, but the girl knew from experience how much love and warmth it really held. Elodie told her about Leonardo's disappearance and how it wasn't uncommon in this kind of weather, but he could be getting a bit hungry.
Mary handed the dog leash to her son and sent him a secret wink, "Why don't you two walk Vegas together and see if you can find him?"
Excitement had been bubbling through the small town of Riverdale for weeks now anticipating the big Fourth of July celebrations ahead of them. Y/N Robins had planned on keeping up with her old tradition of sleeping in until late afternoon, then rolling out of bed in time to catch the fireworks with her friends. But with with the drunkenly asking Archie to be her boyfriend, which was not something she remembered a few hours later, her plans for this year were flipped on their head. So she found herself getting dressed to go talk things out with her supposedly best friend in a quiet spot next to sweet water river.
With her hair half tied up, and a black denim jacket over her shoulders, Y/N left through the door in her bedroom, and waited on the edge of the pavement until she heard a door across the street open and quietly shut. Any butterflies fluttering in her stomach all but disappeared as Archie turned around and smiled into the early morning sun towards her. It had been three days since they had last seen each other, since the girl confessed she didn't really know what she wanted in the space between them.
He jogged over road, asphalt kicking up under his new Nike trainers, and immediately engulfed Y/N's small frame into his own. The two teenagers walked all the way to the edge of Sweetwater River in the silvery silence of early birds and rustling leaves, their hands every now and again grazing each other and lacing together.
"So," The Andrews boy sighed as he lay against the warm grass, watching as she sat next to him and propped her head up on his chest, "what's going on in that head of yours?"
"Leo!" Y/N's melodic voice rang out across the long stretch of stream. Crystal clear water you could see the smoothness of the rocks which lay underneath if you peaked your head over the bank enough. For some unknown reason, the young cat would always find his way towards some kind of water, even back in Phoenix.
"Hello?" Archie bopped the girl on the tip of her nose as she returned back to reality, evidently not hearing what he'd just asked by the puzzled look her face adorned.
She hummed and gave him her full attention, allowing him to rephrase his previous words. In the back of her mind, Y/N knew exactly what she wanted- to leave high school and go on endless adventures with the boy her head lay upon. She wanted an easy life, away from the eerie little town she called home- to decorate her own house with pictures of smiles and candid memories. But most of all, in that perfect moment, she wanted herself to let go and fall in love with her childhood best friend.
After finding Prince Charming and finding out he was really the one from Shrek and not Cinderella, her faith in true love was shaken at the age of sixteen.
"I'm scared of you hurting me, or doing anything that could possibly hurt you, Arch." Y/N's voice faltered at her blunt honesty, "I meant everything I said, but I don't think I'm over what happened with Chuck last year."
"Tiger," Archie interrupted her thoughts, sitting up slightly leaning back on one hand and using the other to cup her face, "I can't promise we won't ever hurt each other even just a little bit, but whatever happens, we'll learn and grown from it together. I don't think I'll ever fully understand how much that bastard hurt you. But, nothing in this world that's worth having comes easy, life is scary and I'll go through all of the shitty parts twenty three hours a day, if it means I get just one with you smiling up at me."
Half an hour of roaming up and down the river bank had passed before a twisting, nauseous feeling took over the pit of Y/N's stomach. She and her family adored their two fluffy boys, her dad would never admit it but they all heard the little 'goodnights' he'd whisper as he made his way up to bed finally. Though with her parents still working, and Y/S/N desperately needing to finish an assignment due tomorrow, the youngest Robins was the only one able to attend this search and rescue mission.
"What if he's -"
Vegas rubbed his nose against her shin in comfort.
"Y/N/N," A twelve year old Archie cut her off in his usual caring voice, "don't even let your mind go there. He's a little ninja cat he's probably off catching frogs or something."
He grabbed her hand, squeezing it in comfort and heading towards an unexplored area of the forest line. Truth be told, he was meant to be doing English homework with Betty Cooper right about now, but that had slipped his mind as soon as Y/N Robins adorably wonky smile found him across the road.
"Leo!" Y/N's sweet voice called out.
"Leonardo?" Archie followed with Vegas by his side.
"That's the sweetest thing I think I've ever heard." The girl admitted shyly, hiding her rose dusted cheeks by bringing Archie into a tight hug, her head resting in the crook of his neck while her long y/h/c hair tickled his face. It smelt of strawberries and mint in the morning breeze.
"Y/N/N, can I ask you something?" His voice sounded nervous, but as she looked up and nodded, his face held a smirk, "Will you stay my girlfriend?"
She answered with a small kiss, staring into his eyes innocently as her fingers traced his back under his thin t-shirt, about to lift the material from his body. But life had a funny way of throwing challenges their way, making them run before they could walk.
"I think I see him!" Archie handed the leash to his best friend, seeing a patch of grey in between the auburn autumn leaves. Vegas barked and tried to follow after his human, but Y/N managed to stop the Labrador from bounding away by distracting him with ear rubs. Wild growls and hisses could be heard as Archie wrestled the feisty long haired cat into his hoodie clad arms. Then Leonardo hissed so madly, the young boy almost dropped him, "Yep, definitely Leo."
Y/N ran over as fast as she could, dropping the lead as soon as she saw his pumpkin eyes and bare teeth, clearly not a fan of Archie. She grinned widely with glee and got to her tippy toes to kiss Archie's cheek. "You're a life saver!"
As soon as the fluffy animal felt Y/N's little hands rubbing his chin as she took him from the boy's arms, he switched into a completely different cat and started purring.
A gunshot sounded through the open clearing, and before a high pitched scream could escape from Y/N's mouth, Archie saw the terror in her eyes and pulled the petite girl behind him. He scaled the area, unable to see anything but birds fleeing from the unusual noise.
"We need to get out of here." The boy's gravely voice whispered with urgency, picking her up without hesitation and running until his lungs burnt and his trainers once again hit the comfort of tarmac.
"What the fuck was that?" Y/N screeched, her inquisitiveness telling to turn back, but thankfully common sense won that battle. She and Archie found themselves back on the pavement of Elm Street before they knew it.
"Y/N, we didn't see anything, it could've been a car backfiring a street away for all we know." Archie tried to rationalise, but in all honesty he was stuck to his core with dread.
"Right, or someone was just murdered and we could've been next on some psychopaths hit list." Y/N's dark mind shone through as she blurted out her inner monologue. The boy didn't have any words of wisdom, instead he lead her to his front door and brought her into his body. They stayed in their own little world for what could have been hours, thankful they had each other and not allowing themselves to think about what secrets Riverdale was really hiding under it's pretty exterior.
Nothing ever happened in the town with 'pep'.
Betty Cooper awoke early that Saturday morning, ready to get any assignments out of the way to enjoy the weekend ahead. She opened her curtains and tied her hair up into a ponytail, but as she looked out of her window at the beautiful blue skies, she watched in shock at the surprising scene unfolding in front of her. Y/N Robins up on her tippy toes, with Archie Andrews' hands wrapped around her waist as they kissed intensely in what the two thought was privacy.

The crackling of the fireplace was subtle as the mellow flames dimly lit the room. The stars outside were almost completely visible through the slightly frosted windows of the warm building. Soft music played in the background as the sound of gentle chattering fluttered throughout the room. Off in their own corner of the room was a young couple exchanging whispers and gazes to one another. Anybody could tell they were in love with one another as their hearts melted like chocolate under the sun.
“Hey, thanks for helping out today. It really helped in moving things along. I think my dad likes you more than me now.” Archie laughed softly as he held your hand in his. Archie looked across the small brown table as he stared lovingly into your eyes. Two cups of warm coffee sat between the two as Archie wrapped your fingers around his.
“Thank you, Archie. You know I’d do anything to help you and your family out.” you smiled, steam blowing lightly away from your face as you spoke. You smiled up at Archie when he started to rub your fingers with his.
“I’m just glad it took a lot less time than it usually does. Things have gotten so stressful this year and it’s nice to have another pair of hands helping, especially if it means I get to spend more time with you” Archie spoke with a small smile. You felt your heart flutter lightly at the words.
“Easy win-win for you then. It’s getting pretty late isn’t it?” You asked as you turned to look at the old clock hanging on the wall
“Yeah. Do you wanna get a ride or something? I can drive you back to my house or you can stay at my place tonight?” Archie spoke
“Archie, I live like 3 seconds away from you, and I have my own car”
“Sorry, I guess I was being a bit of a clingy boyfriend” Archie nodded his head downwards with an awkward chuckle and what seemed to be a light blush.
“Don’t apologize. It’s cute that you care so much for me” you smiled as you got up and grabbed your things. As you were about to walk away, you felt a slight tug on your arm that forced you to avert your attention towards the boy
“Hey, be safe okay? I’ll see you tomorrow” Archie spoke softly. You turned towards him and gave him a quick peck and two gentle pats on his cheek before turning back towards the door as you gave your goodbyes to everyone else.

You shivered as a cold air lingered up your spine, rattling your bones one by one as you took your first step out of the cabin. You wrapped your jacket around yourself tightly as you looked around standing on the porch of the cabin. It was dark, which was expected as it was nearly midnight. The cold air had left signatures of your own breath fluttering around your head. Leaves scattered the ground as autumn was among them, along with something much darker.
You sighed once more as you made your way down the creaky cabin steps on the way to your car. Just as you were making your way to the parking lot, a twig snapped in the distance. You whipped your head towards the noise, squinting as you looked into the gathering of trees behind the cabin before turning around. You figured it was just another construction worker in the background. You continued to make your way to your car before stopping. It was almost as though an ominous silhouette had been shifting behind you on the path. You shuffled your feet slightly to turn once more before an abrupt rush of pain made its way to your forehead. It was as if 100 baseball bats had been battered against your head. You sharply cried as you fell to the ground. Blood started to rush down your forehead as you clutched your head in pain. Through the gloss of your eyes, you were able to make out multiple feet gathered around your body. A swift kick to your stomach stopped you from yelling for help. Then there was another kick, and then another, until it felt like the kicks would never stop. Your blood mixed with dirt as you could do nothing but cry.
“Help! Someone help me please!” You managed to croak.
“You’re on your own, darling” One of the attackers said before spitting on you and cackling along with the others.
Fists connected with bones as feet were rammed into flesh. You couldn’t move, and you certainly couldn’t fight back. One final kick to your face had sent you into the depths of unconsciousness, you could faintly hear the cabin door slam open before the voice of your boyfriend was heard.
It was funny how fast circumstances could change. One second you were surrounded by an atmosphere that screamed love, and safety. A place filled with comfort, a place that was warm, a place that was kind. But it was all just a blanket of security. A blanket that was ripped out from over your body, exposing you to the trouble that lurked just around the corner. Now you were on the ground in a puddle of your own blood. Nothing to protect you, forced to face the harsh realities of life on your own. The harowest of realities. You were in the dark.
***
Streams of harsh light filtered through your eyelids as you began to regain consciousness. The blood rushing rapidly to your head and the abrasive thumping of your brain had caused you to wince and shut your eyes once more. You let a quiet groan as you felt your eyes welling from the pain once again. The aching and pain prickling at your body had hit you all at once. Every bruise, scratch, and cut could be felt simultaneously, almost knocking the breath out of you. You flinched slightly as your tears slid down over the bruises on your face.
“Darling?” a soft voice spoke in the corner with a sniffle
“Archie?” you whispered as you attempted to turn your head towards the source of the voice
“Oh my god, you’re awake” Archie sighed as he frantically moved to your bedside, quickly placing your hand in his
“How did I get here?” You ask with a squint. The white lighting in the hospital room was not easing your pounding headache.
“Some guys almost beat you to death when you were walking to your car, when we finally got to you, you were passed out so we drove here as fast as we could”
“Right” you spoke, your eyes welling up with tears as you remembered the utter fear that submerged your body
“It’s my fault” Archie spoke quietly before turning his head away from you
“What are you talking about?” you ask, trying your best to get him to face you once again
“If I hadn’t let you stay with me that late at night, you would’ve been home. Safe. From whoever the hell was trying to hurt you” Archie explained as a tear fell silently from his face and onto the white blanket draped on your body
“Archie-” You whispered
“No. It is my fault. I should’ve walked you to your car, or taken you home myself. But all I did was tell you to be safe, and let you go. Then the exact opposite happened” From the corner of your eye you could see Archie’s fist turning pale as he tightly gripped the side of your hospital bed.
“Archie. Please don’t blame yourself. It really wasn’t your fault. I’m also not in the condition to comfort you anyways” You said as you weakly reached your hand out to him
“Right, sorry” he said before quickly wiping a tear and dragging his chair closer to your bed
“It’s fine” you said as your eyes began to flutter closed again
“Gosh, I just hope we find those assholes that did this to you so they can rot in prison” archie said as he roughly dragged his fingers through his hair
“It just happened so fast, Archie” you said after a beat of silence. The slight waver in your voice caused Archie to glance up at you immediately
“What?” He asked as he leaned in closer to you
“One second I was just walking out of the cabin, and then I got punched in the face. Then beat to the ground. I felt helpless, Arch. I couldn’t do anything, I could barely even yell for help. I’ve never felt so weak and useless in my life, Archie. At that moment, I felt like I was going to die, and I couldn’t do anything about it. I just had to hope that it would be over soon, or that someone would come and rescue me. I hate that I couldn’t defend myself, and I had to wait for someone to find me. What if it happens again, and I’m completely alone? I wouldn’t be able to do anything. Do you know how quickly they could just kill me, Archie? I wouldn’t have a choice but to accept it. I can’t do anything for myself. I’m hopeless.”
“Hey, hey, hey, don’t say that. It’s okay, you’re not weak. Quite frankly, there isn’t much people can do when they’re literally being jumped by several strangers. Don’t feel bad because you couldn’t defend yourself, and please don’t feel bad that you “needed saving”. You’re not going to die, alright? The only thing that matters is that you’re alive, and I will do anything to make sure this doesn’t happen again, to you or anyone.” Archie said before planting a soft kiss on the back of your hand. At this point you were nearly sobbing as you couldn’t stop the tears from falling. You finally got to take a good look at Archie and saw that his eyes were a vicious red, indicating that he had been crying the past few hours. Archie gazed at you softly as tears of his own began to slip down his cheeks.
“Thank you, Archie. I love you” You whispered, continuing to gaze into his eyes.
“I love you too” Archie uttered back as he softly caressed the back of your hand, just as he had earlier today.
The door opened slightly before a concerned head peeked through.
“Is everything okay in here, Archie?” Fred asked before diverting his attention to you,“Oh, you’re awake?” He said before lightly slipping into the hospital room.
“Yeah, I was just asking how she was” Archie explained, looking back at his father quickly before returning his attention to you
“Do you mind if I have a minute with her, Archie?” Fred asked timidly as he shoved his hands into his pockets
“Yeah, sure” Archie replied hesitantly before getting up to leave.
Fred watched as Archie left the room, only turning his attention to you once the door had shut.
“How are you feeling?” He asked, taking a seat that Archie had just occupied
“Fine” You muttered before pursing your lips together and staring up at the ceiling
“Really?” He asked, raising an eyebrow in concern
“It hurts. A lot. That’s all I can really say about it.” You spoke once more
“Listen, darling, we’re gonna do everything in our power to find whoever did this to you, and make sure that they face the consequences they deserve. There will be no mercy for whoever harmed my future daughter in law” Fred said sternly, contrasting the worried look that engulfed his features.
There was a long pause of silence as you processed what he had just said to you.
“Daughter in law?” You asked meekly, finally turning to face him.
“Oh, right. Too soon?” He asked with a slight chuckle
“Not at all. It has a nice ring to it” You said with a fond smile
“Good. I’ll make sure you stay alive long enough to make it official” He said in an attempt to lighten the mood. You laughed softly before you spoke once again, “Thank you, Mr.Andrews”
“Anything for my future daughter in law” He replied with a wink before heading out of the hospital room.
***
Archie entered the room almost immediately and headed straight towards you.
“What did he say to you?” He asked as he noticed the warm smile adorning your bruised face
“Oh, uh, nothing” You said, trying and failing to hide your bliss.
“Really? He walked out of here with a weird smile on his face. Seemed a bit smug.” He explained with a brow raised in suspicion.
“It was nothing too important, Archie. At least not yet.” You said before turning your head to the ceiling once again and shutting your eyes.
For as long as you were in the dark, Archie would be the light that would guide you.

Betty had her bottom lip tucked between her teeth as she ran her fingers along the silk material in her hands, a smile hinting at the corners of her lips.
Veronica had told Betty about a store recently that sold lingerie (before proceeding to tell her in way too much detail how much Archie had liked what she'd gotten). So after looking through the website she found a pink silk nightgown she liked, and hoped Jughead would too. It wasn't anything too revealing, it just had a low neckline and finished at her mid-thigh.
Jughead was meant to be home at any moment from work, so after Betty had thrown away the packaging that it had been delivered in, she made her way up to their bedroom to try it on. The blonde quickly stripped of her clothes before pulling on the nightgown, smiling as she pulled it over her head.
Though her expression changed when she turned to look in the mirror.
Betty couldn't help but frown as she stared at her reflection, feeling big and uncomfortable. The nightgown was meant to hug her curves, though she felt it just made her look fat. She knew she'd put on a little weight recently - her and Jughead often ordered take-out when either of them were too lazy to cook, and her gym membership had ran out longer ago then she could remember. Though she didn't think she'd put that much weight on.
Her eyes were filled with tears by the time she heard the front door open downstairs, followed by a comedic "Honey, I'm home!" from her husband. Though unlike usual Betty didn't respond, just moving to shut and lock their bedroom door so Jughead couldn't come in and see her, self-consciousness growing.
"Betty?" Jughead called up the stairs after a moment, the sound of his footsteps climbing them following a moment later.
"I'm just getting changed." She called back to him, gathering up her clothes from the door as her thoughts spiralled about how she looked, the tears still falling.
"Ooh my favourite." Jughead spoke jokingly, before trying to open the door, shaking it a little when it hadn't opened. "Is the door locked?" He asked, all traces of entertainment in his voice gone.
"Yeah, sorry I'll unlock it in a moment." Betty spoke thickly, fumbling with her jeans which were inside-out after she'd taken them off.
"Are you crying?" Jughead asked after a moment of silence, a frown audible in his voice. Despite Betty denying it her husband just sighed and said, "Open the door."
"Jug I'm just getting changed-"
"I've seen you naked more times then I can count, now open the door and tell me what's wrong."
Betty sighed, dropping her jeans back on the edge of their bed before unlocking the door, hesitating before pulling it open, her free arm wrapped around her lower stomach insecurely.
Jughead frowned as soon as he saw her expression, what she was wearing going unnoticed as he gently cupped her face in his hands. "What's wrong, love? Talk to me." He said softly, clearly concerned.
Betty just shook her head, feeling embarrassed over it. He was right; he'd seen her naked more times than either of them could count - he'd seen her naked that morning when she'd gotten out of the shower - and he'd never once stopped calling her beautiful. Though she couldn't help but feel like she was gross in her new piece of clothing, and felt even worse that she'd ruined a chance of surprising him with it.
"No, tell me." Jughead urged, sounding more serious.
Betty paused for a moment before sighing, taking in a deep breath before just saying, "Look at me."
And Jughead did. He moved his hands from her cheeks and glanced down at her body in the nightgown, a small frown appearing on his face as he put the pieces of the puzzle together and realised what was wrong. "You don't think you look good in it?" He asked, though he already knew the answer.
"I don't." Betty shook her head, lip trembling as more tears fell. She felt more embarrassed than anything - embarrassed about how she looked and embarrassed about how he'd caught her crying over something like that, which only caused the tears to fall faster.
"What do you mean? You look beautiful." Jughead urged with a shake of his head.
"No, Jug, I look fat." Betty wiped her eyes before sighing. "Veronica told me about some store that sold pyjamas and lingerie, so I wanted to get one to surprise you after work. But I look like this and I just completely ruined the surprise." She shook her head, eyebrows furrowing. "I'm taking this off." She mumbled after a moment, turning to walk back into the room and change her clothes, though before she could Jughead caught her wrist.
Her husband didn't say anything as he stepped into the room himself and lead her over to their mirror, standing her in front of himself and moving his arms around her waist, his chin against her shoulder.
"Jug-" Betty started, wiping her eyes as she looked at herself in the reflection, before Jughead cut her off.
"Betty you are beautiful. You look beautiful. Okay? I've never once thought that you were ugly or fat, because you're not. You're stunning. I don't care that you aren't under one-hundred and ten pounds, I'd rather not be cuddling a skeleton at night." He told her. "The only thing that ruined this surprise was coming home to see you crying, especially over something like this."
Betty kept silent, just watching Jughead in the mirror before slowly letting her gaze wonder back over herself, analysing how she looked.
"You are the sexiest woman alive, Elizabeth Jones. Okay? Please don't get upset over something that isn't even true, love." Jughead left a kiss against her shoulder once he'd spoken.
Betty turned around in his arms and threw her arms around his shoulders to hug him, smiling a little because of his words. She still had tears in her eyes, though they were more because of what he'd said. And those words had meant everything to her.
"I love you, thank you." She whispered into his shoulder.
"I love you too, but you don't need to thank me, Betty." Jughead's arms tightened around her a little as he pressed a kiss to her temple. "You are the most beautiful person out there, don't get upset because society's standards of beauty are impossible to achieve. You're much more stunning than any of those Victoria's Secret models."
Betty just smiled a little and nodded, her arms tightening around him a little more.
She made a point of wearing the nightgown often after that; whether she was wearing it to entice her husband or whether she was just wearing it to bed, she always got a comment from Jughead about how sexy she looked, followed by a kiss.
Whenever she wore it she thought of what Jughead had told her when she'd first got it, and always remembered that whenever she felt self-conscious or like she wasn't good enough. His opinion was the only one that mattered, so she listened to it, and was able to see herself as beautiful too.
