I’ve been meaning to post this, but say hello to my new desk arrangement! This is about a month old, and has changed: I’ll try and snag a fresh picture now that I’ve finalized it.
I’ve really upgraded from when my desk had literally nothing. Now, I’ve got shelves, a raised platform for my computer, a calendar, mug, and a bottle, though my Sakura bottle has since bit the dust in a tragic fall. Don’t worry though: I’ve got a nice, 500 ml thermos with a print from the PS Vita horror game Yomawari though, a game I really like, but can only play before it gets dark, heh.
I’m quite proud and feel like a real teacher: I’ve got so much stuff packed in, with so many things organized on there. I’m definitely setting myself up for a good first term, a great second term, and a wonderful school year.
Just wnated to share my sweet digs at my base school!
God bless the librarian at my base school: she knows my love of Yuri!! on ICE runs deep! Such a kind gift to receive today! #yoi #merch #gifts #riverhigh
A rather lovely gift on Valentine's Day from my supervisor. I'll say that aside from tearing up the moment, the chocolate was, and is still, delicious. We're friends now, though she's still my caretaker. Perhaps though, we take care of each other now. Japan had changed me but I think every day it's for the better. I like the me I've become: I'm a lot more certain about who I want to be, and not who I think everyone wants me to be now. #gifts #Valentinesday2k17 #food #riverhigh
Do It To It, ALT!
Just finished a four class spree and my feet feel like they don’t actually exist anymore. It was 100% worth it though, especially because I had a lot of laughter, made a lot of new students feel welcome. I gave two self-introductions –and by gave, I mean I straight up destroyed them with my awesomeness– and then had two classes with student’s practicing self-introductions. They all did them in English too, which is always the goal.
(Suffice it to say I’m rather proud.)
I’m super ready to head back to the station, right at 4:15 on the dot –try and stop me on a sunny Saturday afternoon! – trade some textbooks from a friend, grab my apples from the family owned market, and cruise off to dinner. I’m aiming for super crispy gyoza, miso soup, and a heaping bowl of rice with a lemon chuuhai.
It all feels very well deserved.
I’ll let my feet rest until then though, and content myself with desk work. This is honestly the first time all day I’m sitting here, and it’s 1:13 p.m. It’s an odd feeling, but makes me feel like I really gave it my all.
Rest time though: catch y’all later, my dudes.
Officially leading school cleaning today for the library, which is where I typically clean lately. I'll probably switch temporarily so that I can get to know the new students next week, but for now, the library is my stomping ground. Since the librarian is a good friend, I offered to do her a favor when she told me she had to go to her daughter's entrance ceremony. I wouldn't have minded regardless: she's helped me so much that it was an easy yes when she asked for the favor. I'm definitely excited, and feel wow responsible. I can't wait to help out today! We'll make that library sparkle and shine!
One of the JTEs from my base school left this on my desk last week. It's a hand towel, useful as spring farms and summer breasts, perfect for wing my hands on the inevitable Fukushima sweat from my brow. It was from one of the female teachers I worked with often, and really touched me. I waited until I was on the bus to open it and nearly screamed with joy. It was so thoughtful and really, really charming. Sometimes, we don't realize how much people know us into they leave. She knew how much I liked Studio Ghibli, especially Totoro and Kiki. I like to think she had me in mind when she got this for me. Thankfully, I'll be working with her at my visit school, so we'll have a few more months are co-workers before we just become Friends who teach. #alt #gratitudes #jet #riverhigh
WIP 3rd Floor English Board that's completely mine, and not attached to English Club and the ultra spiffy board on the 1st floor of River High. I'm going to add a calendar and English Club advertisement for our welcome party and weekly meetings. I'm hoping that this will more regularly expose students to English and make it fun. I think that will be how many students learn best: through enjoyment! I'll be building a mail box next week too for the student entrance, so here's to a fun year of English study! #alt #riverhigh #Englishboard
