new newsletter 💐🍪💕 I wrote about unexpectedly drawing every day for the last two months, the benefits of creative co-working, what you should really do on international women’s day, and lots of drawings and images from the last month or so. Enjoy! 💞
Comparison
Yesterday. More snow than I expected. Today. The blue sky and sun helps. Amazing how much difference a day can make. It feels like the extremes are more extreme up here. Weather never just fades away. It’s either on or it’s off. No in between. I either feel like Jack Nicholson in The Shining going mad or Julie Andrews in The Sound of Music twirling on a sunny mountaintop. In other news,…

do you personally manifest things? such as by mediating/wishing for it? i heard the law of attraction has been known for manifesting things you want and i was curious on your take on it :)
Oh man I have big spicy feelings about the law of attraction and my relationship to it has changed a lot over time. My issue with it is the same as a lot of people’s, which is that the law of attraction has this inherent victim blaming aspect to it (like every abused person was attracting the abuse so they could learn a karmic lesson etc etc etc) that I’m SO not down with. There’s also an element of spiritual bypassing to positive thinking when it’s in the extreme I can’t get behind.
That being said
I do believe there are universal laws. I believe it’s more complex than we maybe know. Finding Alignment is very very real and love is undeniably the strongest energy.
I do write gratitudes regularly. I think of it as mental hygiene because it gives me a container to express something like “I am grateful for the guidance of my dreamspace to take me out of that toxic situation” without lingering on the fact that I was in the toxic situation to begin with. I’m still able to acknowledge the fact that shit was not so good there for a bit, but I don’t get into those mental loops of shoulda coulda woulda, AND it really does stop me from being overly hard on myself. Gratitudes can be bone flayingly raw and honest, and they’re so much more effective when they don’t bypass the truth.
When it comes to manifesting things my personal rules are to make intentions on a full stomach and examine how much fear comes up for me when I think about my desire. This is something I’ve learned through trial and error, because I’ve manifested things in the past that I was fundamentally Not ready for and got myself in way over my head. A lot of advocates for the law of attraction will say fear is a low vibration or a liar or something to that effect, but I believe fear can actually be a really great teacher. The trick is to interrogate the fear and see where it stems from. If it’s coming from a place of feeling I don’t deserve something, I know my manifestation is actually aligned with with highest good and I can throw the fear out. IF, However, the fear comes from a place of recognizing I lack the practical support structures to maintain my manifestation, I know it’s time to take a second look. This is all coming from a Pluto and Saturn dominant person, so fear and structure are low key my tools.
Generally the form I find most useful in writing and saying affirmations are “I am ready for x,y,z...”. For example: “I am ready to accept gifts”, or “ I am ready to accept love”. I like it because there’s a sense of agency in accepting something. You can always turn it away again.
I hope this answers your question!

Bread, juice, and a paper to draw my gratitudes on. An extremely simple celebration of Luhnasadh.
I am grateful for:
Those who have heard me without judgement
Those who have seen and validated what I’m going through
Those who have patched me up without judgement; who have shown compassion when I was falling apart
The things i learned and those i met in residential and the way they allowed to maintain my dignity despite being in crisis
My cat who snuggles and cuddles all the time
The therapy dog I met who was so calm and loving
The brown couch that is always available for me to stay the night in safety
The boy and girl who came to visit and have called me so often this month. With them I am never alone. With them I can always find comfort and understanding.
The rabbits who make me laugh and who remind me to be brave even when I’m vulnerable and to be curious about all of life.
The truck that allows me to access treatment
My family who is making space for me in their home
The patio that is so green and calming
The compassionate letters I have written to myself
The blue house who opened its doors for me without hesitation
The man and woman who have supported me here on tumblr; strangers who showed care and gave me space to speak
Finding a seed of hope in my heart, a desire to change that might someday see me into recovery.
